Default Curved screens; I don't get it

Some time ago I needed to buy a new monitor. I found one that was with in my budget and had all the features I wanted, and it just so happened to be a curved screen even though that was not a feature I was looking for.

Now that I have been playing with it for some time, I don't get it. I don't see how a curved screen changes anything, I don't see or feel anything different at all when I am playing a game.

So what are the benefits that a curved screen supposed to have that apparently I am not seeing/feeling?

The primary feature of a curved screen is that it allowed manufacturers to add a few $$$ to the price for a while.

Viewing angles probably got helped a bit on larger 21:1 panels too.

with a TV, I don't really see it, as you don't sit close enough (Many IMAX screens are curved - not all, but they are a heck of a lot bigger). But for a Monitor, it's supposed to help with the immersion when in the proper distance from the monitor. Or at least that is my impression... I don't have a TV, or monitor (yet).

This multi-quote brought to you by the letters K, A and C.

As for curved screens, I thought they were supposed to help with viewing angles and light reflection, but when I saw one in action I was convinced it was just a gimmick. Did nothing for me, much like KAC's maid.

If it's a super wide monitor, it really needs to be curved or else you're always going to be looking at the sides at uncomfortable angles.

It makes less sense for a tv, as you're sitting far enough back that you don't need the curve.

Yeah for a super-wide monitor I can see the benefit. For normal monitors and TVs it's pointless.

ok, yeah, for Ultra wide, that actually makes a whole lot of sense, like practically required. I have 3 monitors at my work, it would be terrible if they were all side by side in a straight line instead of the curved configuration they are in now.

I'm just glad that I didn't pay extra for the curve. Of the monitors I was looking at with in the price range I wanted, this was the only monitor with a curve, and it had all the other features I was looking for and it was cheaper than the rest of the monitors I was looking at.

Yep. Corporate marketing departments have turned one of the drawbacks of CRT monitors into a selling point.

I have been sporting a curved for past 5 years since 2015 on normal TV sets. It is fantastic. I have one non curved TV in my house and I don’t use it often. I had a curved ultra wide monitor and it was dope until my son broke it. After that never had the urge to buy another 1300 smack monitor.

I think you need at least 5 to 7 more inches to see a big difference. I went from a 27" 144hz to a 34" 120hz ultrawide and am still impressed after a year. Really, don't try to save money on your monitor or GPU.

It is all a matter of size. You sub 30" teeny weenies don't need curve.
But my 38" ultra wide has to have it, or it make the screen look wrong once you have tried it.

JK, it is just a preference thing, nothing more.
