Finished my EGR mod, also modified the intake runners. There used to be these little flaps running on each intake port, I guess they just added more port volume at a certain point in the rpm range? Anyways, I removed them and hogged out the ports.

Drove it around a bit after changing the oil and it's definitely gained some power. Dunno if that's more from unclogging the intake or from hogging out the ports but it has far less hesitation off the line now and has more power all through the rev range. Pretty nice feeling, if only I didn't have to worry about my cam eventually self destructing...

I have a possible lead on a cam from a 150hp model TDI (my Golf has the 100hp model), still waiting on pics but it's a lot cheaper than new. Not sure if it even has a different profile than the stock cam, but the price is right for the amount of mileage.

edit: Got a CEL... Scanning now, looks to be EGR related. Oh well, I tried. No biggie.

From what I read, the flaps on the intake are supposed to help reduce shake and shutter when the shutting off the engine; doesn't sound like a big deal to remove them and you'll get better air flow

There's an anti-shutter valve earlier in the intake, I think these have something to do with modifying power delivery for smoothness, fuel economy, emissions, or something of that sort.

Ah. So what are you going to do now with the CEL? Ignore it as long as you don't notice a difference in performance?

When I get a tune I can have the entire EGR system disabled, then there won't be a code.

those butterflies are usually for stuff like idle smoothness and cold start assistance.
they're in all sorts of engines and removing them really doesn't do a whole lot to hurt anything. mostly for the consumer and not the enthusiast.

*sigh*

Was supposed to be a simple brake job... It grew... Replaced three out of 4 wheel hub assemblies, new brake lines, new wheel cylinders in the rear, new pads/rotors up front...

Ordered a winter kit for my Golf for blocking the radiator openings, also ordered a quick connect adapter so I can hook up my boost gauge easily. Yesterday I also bought the tie-rod ends for my Pathfinder so I can finish rebuilding the front suspension.

Also recorded the most boring 0-60 video ever Uphill and in full auto (instead of Tiptronic).

It's a lot quicker to 60 than it used to be, and would be even better if I actually tried to launch it and wasn't going uphill Can't wait to get a tune... CEL is for the EGR I deleted.

Changing the oil in the STI, washing it, and putting it under the car cover for winter. Might wash the Z and put it on the tender. Probably will put the winter wheels/tires on the BRZ.

Sitting in Mexico, drunk, shopping for new rims and tires for spring. It's looking like Champions or BBS, I can't justify HRE's.

Put in a new HVAC blower fan. Figured it was about time as the old one has been making noise for about 2 years...

On the plus side, found a Dillards gift card buried in the dash.

Put on winter steelies and picked up some plastic hubcaps for them. Came out pretty decent.

Replaced the battery in our 95 Subaru Legacy, after having to jumpstart the car a couple times last week (2nd time after spending the night on the charger). Purchased original back in February 2011, so free replacement via Costco. Nice to have a brand new battery as we get into the winter months.

Applied new graphics and numbers to the race car on the passenger side. Not entirely sure I like the graphic (it wasn't exactly what I wanted), but I'll roll with it for next year. The main goal it just needs to have different numbers from the previous owner as I kept getting "wasn't that so & so's car?".
