For ****s sakes, man. Just wait for 3xxx GPUs. Before you know it, it 'll be January...cos of the holiday period, you know, time flies around that time and what not, then it'll be a 3 month wait for Ampere. Start of Q2.

Turing is not worth it now. That same $$ you drop now you could grab a 3xxx...probably....

You should have grabbed one when they were released. IF you were 4k'ing then I
d probably recommend a Turing card... but you're not so wait.

Depending on funds.. Are you still using your broken mobo with single channel 2666mhz? If so, then sure, upgrade. You will see some improvement. If not, wait for the next gen. It's not far away now.

I like the look of next gen Zen, but TBH I'm waiting for Comet Lake 10 core Z490. Without any real evidence, I sense it'll be the better gaming chip and a worthy upgrade from 8700k/8086k. I don't care how many +++++nm it's built on, as long as it performs. But of course, wait for benchmarks.

Anyone happen to know if the next gen APU's running on Zen2? or zen3?

Seems like the current crop of APU's are one Zen behind the actual CPU generation (the 3xxx APU's are Zen+) I cant tell If they're leapfrogging Zen2 with Zen3 on the next one (plus I think the next ones are going to be paired with RDNA?)

maybe too early to tell?

Planning to build a console sized PC for the living room with enough horsepower to run PS4/5/Xbone/X multiplats
will add a gPU at a later time if required.

Then my own PC will get upgraded to something more monstrous later.+

You've asked the same question so many times. Google some reviews and figure it out yourself. You do the same bs with the 2080TI, close to a dozen times and you still don't own one.

Finally got time to do some testing tonight with my 3900x. Loaded the latest 1.0.0.4b beta bios for my asrock x470 taichi. This is with no overclocking, all stock settings and LLC set to Level 1 (lowest setting for asrock).

Finally got to see above 4600MHz on a core!

some memory testing

xmp stock

still xmp stock but dropping to 3600 (cl 18)

read 50,708 mb/s
latency 69.1ns

3600 with only primary timings dropped to 16

3733 with stock xmp timings

3733 with cl 16

3800 with a 1:1 clock (1900) doesn't seem to boot, post lights hang at the vga step.

So any further improvements would be tweaking sub timings which I have no clue about.

tried CL14 a few times but it causes the system to reboot and then go into a boot cycle over and over. upping the voltage to 1.45v did not help.

3733 with everything at CL15 works, but for some reason CAS is still being reported at CL 16 when the bios says it's set to 15.

What type of memory is it? Is it Samsung b-die, Hynix, Micron E?

For CL14 at 3600 you'll probably have to give it some more voltage. Also you will probably need to run something like 14-15-14-14-28-42 (higher TRCDRD). Unless it's Micron E and then it would be 14-19 or 14-20, but I'd guess it's not Micron E since it wouldn't be stable at 16-15-15-15-28-48

B-die, it's 1.4v stock with it's xmp. I can't even touch CL14, the moment I put that in even if I leave everything else auto it just reboots over and over, even with 1.45v

Have you tried using Ryzen DRAM Calculator? It is pretty accurate for Samsung b-die in my experience. It could be that setting the ProcODT and other subtimings could help get CL14 stable.

On the other hand, it could be that your memory or board just doesn't want to do it. 3600 CL14 is actually pretty aggressive, that's almost like the best any memory on the market currently can do. Also, in the end, the difference between CL14 and CL15, even with slightly looser subtimings, only ends up being like 1-2%, so it's not that serious.

I've wasted a lot of time messing with memory over the last six months, and my advice is to be careful of getting sucked down that rabbit hole. I kind of regret it, after thinking how many hours I put in for low single digit gains. Should have just been playing games instead.

Are you disabling Gear Down Mode, like the calculator suggests? I've found that my Asus CH6 Hero won't even boot with that set to disabled with Ryzen 3000 at pretty much any frequency. So, if you have been disabling it, maybe try running with it enabled instead and see if it makes a difference.
