Default AMD Radeon HD 7970 GHz - "GPU Boost" and faked clocks!

Quote:
Newcomer AMD Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition has "new special faking feature". It is own secret "GPU Boost" technic. AMD driver/GPUz reports different frequencies than they really are! GPU clocks of "GHz edition" are 1.0-1,1 GHz (some vendors has 1,05 or 1,075 MHz) AMD gave them a free hand in this. But there is impossible to check real frequencies, AMD keeps it masked by driver. Stay tuned ... we will prove it later. Card is here ... awaiting for detailed testing.

Update 1: Its look like, GPU is working @ 1,2 GHz instead of 1050 MHz reported in driver/GPUz/utilities. Power consumption/heat/noise corresponds to these higher clocks! Stay Tuned ...

Looks about the samish as 680 performance wise. Decent enough, but that's way out of my Budget range. Hopefully AMD can solve Heat/Power Consumption for the 8xxx line.

I don't think anyone expected a current 7970 or 680 owner to change to this.

If you're looking for a ~$500 card, this is in the running.

guess i was more implying that you might be better off just going with a regular 7970 and overclocking it yourself. though it wont reach the same overclocks as these ghz editions do, but you do end up saving quite a bit of $$$

I think they're a bit disappointing, both of my could run the same speeds as the ghz edition, and they did not need 1.2v to do it, unlike the ghz edition cards.

I see that they did raise the ccc limit for the ge cards, I guess that is why unwinder called them greedy.

I find it disappointing they're still slower than the 670 in BF3.. and even with their clocks are slower than the 680 in most of the popular titles...

And when oc'd, they use more power than the 690
