Those massive gains seem to be more from Manual tuning + bit more from slightly faster ram.

Can either get something like this

https://www.cyberport.de/pc-und-zube...icher-kit.html

or

https://www.cyberport.de/pc-und-zube...-speicher.html

Yes it's in German.

No idea if Ballistix is even a good brand these days been out of the loop of RAM since forever.

This site lets you find out if the ram you're looking at is the good **** AKA b-die ram by searching for the serial number.

Newer Ballistix has Micron Rev E chips, which overclock well. It's not as good as B-die, but it costs half as much and can probably get you within about 5% of the performance.

Unlike maybe 10-15 years ago, more modern processors can benefit from faster memory. It's just one of those things where you have to consider whether it's worth it or not based on your budget and the other components in the system. It makes your CPU perform noticeably faster, but that only helps in situations where you're CPU bound.

If we're talking about gaming, you're still probably going to end up being GPU bound the majority of the time, so it's questionable whether or not it's worth it.

If you already have a top of the line system though with a 2080/1080 Ti+ then it may be worth it, provided you're also running 100+ Hz. At 60/75 Hz you'll almost never be CPU bound.

Hmmmm....taking a break from doing some work last night, watching a video...had two Word docs open and a powerpoint open. Got a random BSOD. First one I've ever gotten witn Win10, ever.

Couldn't replicate it, can't find the issue. Still running the out-of-the-box BIOS, guess I will update tonight and run some memtest. (Although benchmark stuff and some gaming hasn't shown any problems)

I only have a 1660ti right now, but as soon as Nvidia drops their 3800ti next year or whatever that'll be mine.

I play on 2560x1080 144Hz so I'm CPU limited quite often with my current rig.

Wont upgrade this monitor for at least 5 years minimum as I'm waiting for MicroLED or something along those lines to become the norm.

edit: nevermind figured out that techspot and hardware unboxed are the same people.

Anyway I still have a month or so to think about the RAM, worst case I'll go with the Balistix and hope to get something out of it even if it's just a little bump.

Well, if money is no object then Samsung B die is the way to go. Otherwise Ballistix LT 3000 C15 for best bang for your buck (or Tracer if you want RGB). Don't pay up for Ballistix Elite as at that point you may as well just get B die. For Samsung B die, either 3200 C14-14-14-34 or 3600 C16-16-16-36 are relatively affordable (and those frequencies/timings are basically guaranteed to be b-die). Going beyond that you start burning a lot of money for not much improvement. I actually have some really expensive memory in my rigs, but I can't honestly say that it's really worth it.

ASRock finally released the latest AMD AGESA Combo-AM4 1.0.0.3 ABB BIOS. Using AMD Master everything looks like it is probably now running the way it should, Temps much lower along with the Voltage at Idle hanging around 1.

Asus released the ABB for my board, I now see 4 cores consistently hitting 4.4 - 4.5 gig and the other 4 hitting 4.3 - 4.4.

Idle temps are low now. Pretty happy now.

Not too shabby and a fairly good voltage for 12 cores. What are temps like?

Still waiting on some BIOS tweaks before I go full hog on tweaking. Still getting the occasional C5 error and it seems like they keep changing up some of the PBO options for x370 on the Crosshair board.

Max temp of 75.5C, Motherboard VRM topping out at 52C. This is on a Corsair H150i Pro 360mm aio.

It turned out my Infinity Fabric wasn't stable at 3733, so I had to drop down to 3666.

Just a tip for any of you overclocking your memory and IF. You need to test the IF separately with a heavy CPU load like P95 small FFTs. It's possible to have your memory totally stable at a given frequency (10,000%+ coverage), but have the IF itself still be unstable under heavy load.

I was having random hangs, so that was a clue something was wrong, and when running P95 my mouse cursor kept freezing (same behavior that happened when I tried running IF 3800 even under no load), then my computer rebooted. But no problems at 3666 MHz.
