There is that being a new process but story is they are ahead of what they expected to be at on the 7nm node and its going great. If this was GF Id give it to you that we wouldnt see big dies for some time but TSMC has a great record. And tho its more of 10nm type its still close to a full node drop from 16nm.

I see 25b at about ~600mm2. Which would be slightly smaller than the pretty damn big 20 nvidia gen at ~750mm2.

If amd doesnt do it Im sure nvidia will.

The nm numbers are basically meaningless as it's an arbitrary marketing number that tells you nothing about transistor density. IE, TSMC's new "12nm" node is just their old 16nm node with some power efficiency optimizations.

Rumor has it, it is as fast as the 1080 for $250 USD? Would be pretty sweet if true!

AMD finally has a window to catch up and aiming for the mid-range is a lousy idea.

Go big or sell the outfit off to someone else who will.

With 4k tvs being cheap Id be really surprised if the gpu in the ps5 wasnt able to easily run 4k. I dont think Sony could sell the ps5 if it didnt run 4k well. Mid range now sounds weak but it may not be next fall.

It is the next logical step for both manufactures though I think it'll be more focused upon jettisoning locked frame rates to gives the illusion of smoothness with HDMI 2.1. Those cheap TVs are not going to have that for a while though.

1080 performance at $250 USD would basically make it a replacement for Vega. Granted this is half a year in the future, but it certainly would take it to Nvidia's line-up. The 2070 which offers roughly 1080 performance is going for $500-$600.

Maybe the 2000 series will be a "short generation", but generally that's what we could expect for the next year and a half. Also with how large the dies are on the 2000 series, Nvidia may have a hard time cutting prices too far.

Anyway, let's hope that it's true.

Interesting read and rumor is there are several navi chips so the first one is just the mainstream one:

Makes sense. AMDs next line up which supports RTX will out perform NV's 40 FPS @ 1080p.

AMD has a chance at flipping roles with Nvidia. Going for more performance vs new features. Especially considering its very early to be going after raytracing.

By not doing RT in 2019 it can give that transistor budget to effect better performance via more shaders, rops, texturing units ect... It could put out a really monstrous shader loaded gpu on 7nm.

Kind of the same way they avoided latest gen avx support for first gen ryzen so they could catch up to intel in ipc on desktop.

Good to see Lisa Su officially announce that AMD will be very competitive against Turings top end cards.

AMD better deliver. Would love to see AMD smash NVidia with some cheaper alternatives, or even just some alternatives, in the high end GPUs sector.

Well if Navi on 7nm matches Turing on 12 nm I dont know how competitive itll be. Its always a matter of price anyway but I think Turing 7nm will be hard to beat.

Don’t make the card have half the chip wasted for ray tracing and it should compete against 7nm Turing just fine

AMD RX 3080

now NV can't use RTX 3080 and RTX 3080 ti

………

if it is 15% faster than vega 64 and 249

I will have to see how well two work in CF or maybe they will have a RX 3080 x2 card for 500 bucks

If Navi comes out 15% faster than my Vega 64 for £250 it’s a buy. By then my Vega will be going 2 year old so right in my upgrade path.

Itd be a buy if the top end did RT or had some new feature or was measurably faster. Ill deal with the space heater (not so much so when undervolted) living in a cold country.

But 15% isnt enough for me to upgrade from Vega 64. Its so close that Id bet in some cases where games are shader heavy the Vega would be faster...

15% would put it close to a 1080 ti in 4k
https://www.guru3d.com/articles_page...chmarks,6.html

if it is 249 it would be great

and two in CF would be killer to replace my 1080 ti strix on my threadripper system

just worried about heat and the only 8gb

but if at 7nm they fix the power problems of vega 64 it's a deal
i'll buy two watercooled ones
