The Dot Pitch is the distance between phosphors of the same color; the closer they are the sharper the image will be.

So the 17inch Samsung with Dynamic Flat Tube or whatever witht he .20 dot pitch is better than the 17inch Perfect Flat Viewsonic with the .25 dot pitch?

I must choose between the two of those.

Well one might have brighter and more vid colors or might make alot of clicking between switching rez and Re-freash first how much are they?

But ya a higher DOT pitch is better just make sure ya can return it if ya don't like the one you end up getting(Either one is a good monitor I like ViewSonic a little better tho. But that is because I have one )

Just get the one YOU want And the one you feel more comfrtable buying

Exclamation

Before you choose make sure they are measuring both pitches the same way. The best is verticle. Verticle .22 could equal Horizontal .24-.25. I bought the SyncMaster 900nf from Samsung.

Um some of you are a little confused.
Lower Dot Pitch IS usually better. But in terms of the Samsung it is not. They advertise the .20 pitch but they do not measure it the same way as most other companies. For a True .20 pitch monitor expect to pay at least $1000.
My $.02

Specs are a fine place to start, but I advise SIDE by SIDE visual comparison before ANY money is aid down.

Do you buy shoes without trying them on?

A monitor is just TOO BIG a purchase and too important to get it wrong!

And I agree there is confusion here.

DOT PITCH.....less is better provided it is measured in the same manner.

DOT PITCH, actually is generally a diagonal measurement.

What about TRINITRON tubes? They have stripes and STRIPE PITCH is not the same as DOT pitch. Stripe pitch is a horizontal measurement.

In any case, start with specs, look at the screens and pick ONE you like. Then open the piggy bank and get the best one you can afford.....You will be looking at it for a long time!

Actually I just ran out and bought the cheapest, highest res, and fastest refresh monitor I could find. Works fine for me.

Got a Relysis Re988 19" for £250, no problems what so ever, good quality.
