TenFour is still being judged by the masses

Default iPad 3 performance

I'm thinking of getting an iPad to replace my wife's laptop that she uses only for web browsing and email.

I am also working on developing mobile games as a hobby. I've heard that the iPad 3 has the worst fill-rate-to-number-of-pixels ratio of any iDevice, so it is maybe the one I should get if I want to also use it to tweak performance of the game. (I would buy a refurb.)

But is the performance so bad that it would be annoying to use on a daily basis for web browsing?

I'm thinking maybe I should just get an iPad 4 (which maybe is what I really should be using for tweaking performance since I expect it will have a much bigger user base in the long run), and then just plan to render at 3/4 resolution on iPad 3.

Does anyone have experience using the iPad 3 on a daily basis? And if you did an later used the iPad 4, was it a worthwhile upgrade just for web browsing performance?

For web browsing, stick with an iPad 3 if you can get it cheap. The A6 vs A5 processor isn't going to impact web browsing performance in any noticeable way.

Check out this side-by-side comparison of overall performance.

I have heard that the iPad 2 is "better" gaming wise than the iPad 3 because iPad 3 is retina. The processor struggles with the screen on some games but when it comes to web browsing the iPad 3's retina screen provides a much better experience. The iPad 4 solves the problem with its processor. In this guys case I'd get a iPad 4, and scale the iPad 3 down. Quite a few games do this or they provide sliders for graphic fidelity to turn off some of the effects the iPad 3 struggles with. The iPad 2 is to the iPad 1, what the 4 is to the 3. No sense in picking up the iPad 1 or the 3.

So yeah get a 4 when you make games for the 3 cut the resolution or provide graphics options. Also there are several rules:

ALWAYS provide the option to auto rotate the screen, the charger gets in the way if you don't.

If you think you have a awesome new control scheme, you don't. Provide options to move and resize all the controls.

If at all possible make it universal.

If your game is a multiplayer card or board game, then it needs to be asynchrous, real time mp sucks.

Definitely hype your game on neogaf forums, touch arcade forums, and pocket tactics. Being active with feedback on those forums especially TA can help your exposure a lot.

Have sanuku on TA forums do a video by giving him a prerelease code.
