Default The Galaxy Mega

http://gizmodo.com/5994357/samsungs-...zed-smartphone

Samsung has officially announced the arrival of its new gargantuan handsets. The new, aptly named Galaxy Mega will be available in both 5.8- and 6.3-inch versions—for people with freakishly large hands everywhere.

The new pair of phones, both of which are bigger than Samsung's already enormous 5.5-inch Galaxy Note 2 (check out a comparison shot below, from Ubergizmo), are actually fairly modest in terms of spec. The 6.3-inch phone offers up a 720p display, LTE connectivity, 8GB or 16GB of storage, and a 1.7GHz dual-core processor. The smaller 5.8-inch model a qHD display, HSPA connectivity, 8GB of storage, and a 1.4GHz dual-core processor.

Or Galaxy Retire...
Since the older crowd would need such a huge display to see anything.

Gotta hand it to Samsung, they know how to milk a brand name.

Not a fan of these slabs but I guess it can be a good alternative for a both a phone and a 7" tablet, if your hands and pockets are big enough. One particular thing that irks me is the 960 x 540 resolution on a 5.8" screen. I mean come on Samsung, It might not be a flagship device but 180ppi on a 2013 phone is just bad.

Well now that you´ve brought it up, I could probably name you another company that wrote the book on it.

Tablets are going smaller and phones bigger, seems everyone is throwing darts with a blindfold on trying to figure out what people want.
Though I suppose the large phones sold enough for them to figure there is a market for a even bigger one.
The resolution is pretty strange though, with phones out there using 1080p panels that I wouldnt be too surprised where made by samsung..
Only logical conclusion for big screen + low res would be people with poor eye sight, but is that really a market by itself?

Got a S3 myself and Im fine with the size of it and the screen space, but I cant really see myself lugging around anything bigger.

actually samsung is really smart, they have phone within 3-4-5-6-7 inches. they offer consumer a choice which apple is not able to match. to be honest, this is just great for consumer.

Women, uber-nerds, and old folks MIGHT consider buying a 6.3" phone... but how many of those could there possibly be? Samsung seems to have been driving drunk the past year with the lame phone ideas they've been pulling out their ass.

Seems like a statement that should be backed by poor sales number, is that a fact?
Or are you simply asserting that you would not buy one of each of their models?

If people don't want bigger phones, sales will reflect that and Samsung will move back towards a smaller screen..

Hmm I might be in the market for one of these... I don't want a 'pad' as I see them as a waste of time... basically a smart phone with no voice connection and missing some sensors.

A bigger smart phone may suit my needs, I would however have to see one physically first as it sounds a little on the large side, despite my manly portions.

I'd LOVE to know what people intend to be doing with a nearly 7 inch phone. What kind of free-time do you people have if you're spending THAT much time gaming and watching movies all day? Is this finnaly a "phone for the unemployed" that America has been begging for? Maybe the future Obamaphone?

My nexus 7 while it is pocketable, it still is huge. Need a big head to talk into a phone that size.

Exactly.

When I'm on an airplane or train for hours at a time, I'd rather carry around TWO devices instead of just one.

My note 2 saves me from carrying my work cell, a laptop, a camera, and a note pad onto job sites.

When an android dev slaps together a reliable range finder app, it will save the trouble of toting a walk wheel around as well.

I can also snap and edit photos, and email them on the spot.

Single device + massive time saving features + a large enough screen to do it all comfortably.

So why is bigger for the unemployed obamaphone wanters?

I bought a wifi samsung camera so I can sync it with my nexus 7. I did not think it all the way through. Since it has wifi, I can upload it from the camera. No need for the nexus. But, It has a pretty neat remote viewfinder app. Plus it is nice to look at the photos on the nexus. In theory I can attach it to a cover and boom! I have Nexus 7 with 16x optical zoom and 13MP camera.

How often do you travel, man? It's not THAT big of deal if you already own a tablet... and even then how long is the flight? I hear that sometimes, but it makes no sense.

I'm in a commercial airplane 20 hours a week. Then whatever I spend in airports or trains.

Instead of carrying a laptop, tablet, and phone some people would prefer an all-in-one device.

6.3 inch is too big for phone (not pocketable) and too small to be used for work. Though it hit the right spot on dual core CPU and 1.5GB of RAM

My 7 incher fits in my dress pants/khakis... Without a case. It is too conspicuous though to be waving it around.

If they use the rumored SuperAMOLED with pentile on it with qHD resolution (540 x 960) and HD (1280 x 720) it surely looks hideous. But Samsung fan won't bother much anyway
