Default Forza 4 vs Forza 7?

Which is the best sim?

I'm trying to decide if I should get rid of my Xbox360.

For some reason, I get the feeling in FM7 the cars don't handle or steer quite right but that could be rose colored glasses of the past.

I don't care about the visuals, just posting this for fun.

Suspect 7 is dynamically better in every way.

Even in the clip you posted, Forza 7 looks like the cambre changes are knocking the car around more faithfully. The car is also slipping a bit more.

Either way, I don't think either one really qualifies as a fully faithful sim.

Get rid of the Xbox 360 (but give it a worthy send-off ceremony), and look into either Assetto Corsa on Xbox One, or (releasing next week on PC) Assetto Corsa Competizione.

Forza 7 is better than 4, in my experience.

FM7 has this unrealistic speed limited steering thing though. I find it annoying as heck. Can't remember if FM4 had anything like this.

Its described well here.

I have a special place in my heart for Forza 3 & 4, but no doubts the series has surpassed it since that time.

Forza 3 especially, as it marks the time when Forza permanently surpassed Gran Turismo. Forza 4 was really just prestige on top of that.

So I dug out my Xbox360.

After some PITA trouble with HDMI not being seen with my 4k Vizio and the DVD player not seeing that a game disc is installed, I finally did a bunch of back to back switching between FM3 and FM7.

Using the gamepad the whole time with each, I hot lapped the 944 Turbo on Maple's and Suzuka's shortest track a bunch.

Right away I noticed the visual shaking, leaning, bumping and tipping is very minimal in FM3.

The steering wheel reflection is also obviously missing in FM3, which I didn’t mind, as I think the FM7 steering wheel reflection is way too pronounced and annoying.

Driving in FM3 is really good EXCEPT that the steering is very sensitive on turn in; so much so that I was swerving like a drunk early on. It's like I was jerking the steering wheel 10° each time when I wasn't. After a few laps, VERY carefully with extremely small thumbstick movements I could arc in the turns but it was difficult and inconsistent to do.

None of this initial steering over-sensitivity exists in FM7. FM7 steers predictably and way more linear to which way the wheels are pointed. Much better steering representation in FM7.

Amazingly, the actual handling, grip and reaction to understeer/oversteer seemed relatively similar in both games. However, due to the greatly enhanced visual effects, FM7 felt more real with much more immersive feedback.

Sounds in FM7 are better, also with many more of them; tire chirps (like when the tires regain traction, not just squealing from sliding), gearbox noises a plenty and greatly varied engine sounds were most noticeably additions.

Lastly, the only thing I miss from FM3 are some nice car and track choices. <sniff> No 959, no Saabs, missing 70's 80's 90's cars and no DeLorean.

So overall, yeah, rose colored glassed are indeed the case.

FM7 is absolutely an amazing game. So yeah I don’t think I want to revisit FM4 anytime soon.

Btw, FM3 does the same weird steering limited with speed thing as FM7.

The game literally does not steer fully; as I am getting slower (scrubbing off speed through a turn) the wheels start to turn more even though the stick is all the way to the left or right the whole time. Forza seems to be locking the steering angle, when I am too fast in a corner.

Honestly, that sounds like understeer. Don't see what's wrong with that. Real cars do this.

That’s exactly what a car does. Think about the physics .. something moving at a higher speed will have a lower turn radius.

Come on bro, you drive an RS7.

I understand but you guys are not reading properly. The wheel doesn't turn fully in the car, no matter the condition, which is not realistic.

Either the car has variable steering speed, or it's this:
