But then you're not talking about a tethered device. I can see the value in that since it's not redundant.

Edit: damn you nyc, I think you just convinced me to buy a Gear S for running

It's a good workout device really. The onboard gps does work but it will rob battery life to 1 day only. As cheesy as samsungs s health is. The phone and watch shealth combo works alright for me. I have a prepaid sim in mine, so it costs me 20 bucks every 3 months. Can't complain about it. I've had my phone battery die but still be able to make a call or send a text thanks to the watch.

Yeah I'd be totally fine with that battery life. Having something that can track my runs, heartrate, and play music wirelessly without sitting awkwardly on my arm is basically everything I've been looking for in a smartwatch.

Because I can see the notification and see if it is important. If it is I can just call the person or know that it can go ignored.

I use voice to text but I hate text read out.

The Verge gave the Moto 360 an 8.1... With their Apple bias it's got to be an absolutely awful device to score lower than the 360.

I have a moto360. It's beautiful, but flawed. I'd probably give it a 7/10 for a rating. Did I mention it's beautiful

I'll go check this out in the store when it's available here. On the flip side, apparently Google is really close to getting Android Wear to work with iOS, so there's that

The commercials make it seem interesting and useful. It will be popular because android lacks marketing for their watches. I prefer a mechanical timepiece myself

If it could be used as a proximity device to unlock your phone the would be ****ing sweet.

was just at Best Buy.. was REAALLLY tempted to get the Moto 360 at $179.. personally after using wireless charging.. how any device, particularly a "watch or band" comes without it is just amazing. NFC too should be a must have. Limited OS support is a bit of a hinderance.. maybe when drops to sub $150 I may revisit

Android Wear never stood a chance. Nice try though. I'm sure they are frantically back at the drawing board.

I'm pretty certain you said that about Android phones and Android tablets too. How does it feel to be wrong every time you post something like this?

Walked out the door of BB with a moto 360 for less than 99 bucks. Buy a shitty android phone for 30 bucks at BB get another 100 off the 360. Also apply your movers coupon or edu coupon for another 10% or 25 off total.

Android hasn't received anywhere near the dev support the Apple Watch has. All the major apps are ready to go, were as Android versions are no existent.

Flavor of the month, as usual with Apple. You said exactly the same thing about Android back in the day, and are still eating your words

It's still an Apple first world for developers. They may have all the market share, yet last to get the hot apps and feature updates. Android users can't even update their own OS without a hack or permission from their carrier.

Be careful with the One-click ordering in the Amazon app.

Not to mention the lack of features on a Nexus device. My g3 has otg out of the box. With a N7 I need to unlock and modify crap.

The vanilla nexus experience is a bland experience.

These watches are way overpriced. $50 and I may bite.

I was telling Elysian earlier. I went to check out the Apple Store Saturday. Went downstairs to the omega store. I own a Speedmaster now and no Apple watch.

(Though I didn't buy it there anyway)

No. That's actually Android. You can manually update most Windows Phones to beta pretty easily, or new versions when they are available. Android has a crap deployment schedule. And I'm not talking about the carriers and Samsung's and LG's of the world, I am talking about Nexus devices and Wear devices that are supposed to be on a first served basis.

I am STILL waiting for 5.1 for Wear. And I waited almost 2 weeks for it on my Nexus 5 before I manually updated.

THAT is bullshit.

I got one.

It's quite good. I think a lot of people are looking at these things wrong. These watches really aren't meant to replace anything. They are simply a notification device, and the Apple Watch is very good at that. Sure it doesn't have a phone built in, or a keypad to type, but I don't want that crap. I'm not going to type on my wrist. I don't want games and stuff, because I'm not going to want to play that on my wrist.

The battery has been WAY better than I expected, it easily lasts a full day, almost two.

The screen is FANTASTIC, you really have to see it. Other than when you are in direct sunlight, the display looks like it covers the entire watch face.

I think it could use a GPS chip for running, etc, but it really does a pretty good job of guessing distance on my runs.

It is definitely a quality item. Is it worth the $400+, that's really up to the individual to decide. The stainless steel version is pretty nice but I don't feel like it is worth the extra money.

For all the people that are ragging on it, just go try one. If you don't like it, don't buy it. It's not a computer on your wrist but who really wants that?

All that and more is available on Android Wear and has been for ages. At a cheaper price. With more variety. The only thing I miss is the NFC.

MY ragging is the ridiculous Apple upcharge for even their most basic version.

Personally I love smart watches. There is a use case and it is certainly not for everyone. But every single thing you just described is available on Wear. And you don't have to pay a massive premium. If and when Google releases Wear on Apple, I am curious to see what will happen. I am anticipating Apple will go ahead and kick all watch related apps off the market (Pebble, Wear, etc.).

As an aside, the way you use it is almost the same as the way I use it. And I am glad you are enjoying it and hope you continue to do so
