Default AMD Ryzen 7 3700X is such a hit it almost outsold Intel’s entire CPU range

The latest stats from German retailer Mindfactory (as highlighted on Reddit) for the month of July show that AMD sold an incredible 79% of all processor units, compared to 21% for Intel.

Was looking for this processor on Newegg today... sold out. Third party sellers are of course offering it (For $30+ extra), and the prices on amazon are criminal.

Seems like the sweet spot for a new build.

It's a shame their gaming performance isn't up to scratch yet, as I don't want to buy intel but for high fps gaming I'll have no choice.

Only if you game at 1080p. Otherwise it wouldn't matter much.

And only if you upgrade the cpu every year... In 5 years the difference of speed of a 9900k and a 3700x wouldn't matter much and both would fall behind the tech anyway.

Honestly anyone who doesnt have a 5 year or older cpu doesnt need to upgrade. Save your $ for a gpu. But the argument for longevity for those who are buying right now is what will be more important down the road in 3-5 years. Single core clock or more cores? My bet is more cores. So 3700x vs 8700k or 3900x vs 9900k.

Those who upgrade their cpu every year or 2 for shits and giggles dont need to care about either reason.

My 9900 running at 5Ghz is doing fine too. I bought it before all this Ryzen hype and I don't regret it, the box is nice too

I went from 3770k to 1800x and that was a decent upgrade

1800x to 3800x is not as big but fair

Geez the price of 9400F has dropped hard thanks to 3600. Built my friends son a gaming rig with it for dirt cheap (and RX580).

In fact it's cheaper than 9350k everywhere, I don't get it.

The i3 K version has always been a bad buy. Better a locked i5 over an unlocked i3.

All the same I'd have gone with a Ryzen 3600 myself. You get SMT, basically the same frequency, better IPC and potentially better upgrade path. It does cost a bit more though.

That's right - why is the 9400F a lot cheaper than the i3 everywhere?? To me, the locked 6 core i5 is the far better buy.

And the 3600 is far more expensive than the 9400F over here, like $200 AUD vs $300 AUD.

The 9350k has graphics also, paying for that too.
