Default desktop won't go above 1440p

Used a sweet dell monitor on another sytem always had 2560x1440 res.
Using monitor on wife's PC now and can't get anything above 1080p.

monitor: Dell U2713HM 1440p
cpu: i5-4690k (using igpu) claims 4k on HDMI.
motherboard: Gigabyte Z97X-Gaming 5

So the monitor is an obvious 1440p.
cpu can do 4k with onboard video over HDMI.
DVI didn't work. I noticed the motherboard specifies DVI as 1080p max.
Motherboard manual says 4k over HDMI as well.

So when I use the onboard gfx with this cpu/motherboard/monitor combo I get 1080p max. What am I missing?

I solved the problem, how stupid.
The monitor on dedicated GPU did DVI @1440p. It's how I ran it.
The monitor apparently does HDMI @ 1080p only.
I can't go DVI to this new PC as the onboard DVI will do 1080p only.
So both HDMI and DVI are out.
Monitor has DP, but onboard doesn't.
soooo.. WHAT BS!
stuck at 1080p bleh.
Not worth installing an ancient GTX 260 DX10 card just to get 1440p? No games will be played.

You could probably run a HDMI to DVI adapter on the monitor end? Not sure if it'll work though ..

Doesn’t matter if it’s DVI or DP since it’s doing conversion from HDMI.
