Congrats! Wow is that super shady of microcenter wtf. Usually I have had no issues when I used to buy from them years ago. So not cool.

Yeah no need, the 2080S fits perfectly between the 2070S and 2080Ti. It would also hurt the $2500 Titan RTX sales. I don't see it happening either.

May is just around the corner for the 3080/3080Ti.

I don't know if the 3080/3080TI will come out that soon. I wouldn't be surprised if it took longer since the AMD cards aren't offering much competition. The 5700XT is challenging the 2070/2080 but the super cards put a hamper on that already.

May sounds like a solid guesstimate based on 10+ more months of solid Turing revenues and margins. 12nm may
be a shorter generational timeline window than usual where the focus may be on 7nm.

Now I may come across a bit hypocritical here but the original 2080 has started dropping in price and I saw a Palit Dual OC for under £600 which kinda piqued my interest somewhat. It's a decent upgrade to my Vega 64 and is less money than I was going to spend on a Radeon VII which I cancelled.

I've also noticed a KA2 OC 1click 2080 Super for £660 but it's on pre-order so may shoot up in price when it comes into stock. Looking at reviews the Super card is less than 10% faster than the 2080 so not sure if it's worth the extra money. Not really interested in the 2070S or 5700XT TBH so it would have to be the 2080 or Super. Unfortunately patience is not a virtue I possess so if the KA2 card is not available at the above price in the next couple of weeks it makes my buying decision much easier.

I would just wait. Unless you're buying a 2080TI, none of these cards are all that great.

https://www.anandtech.com/show/14663...uper-review/10

only the 2080 ti is worth the upgrade from a vega 64

2080 or 2080 super is only going to get you a few FPS more and the same 8gb memory

and unless the good 2080 ti drop under 999 (not likely) it is a little late in it lifespan to pay 1300 bucks for a strix like ti

This review intrigues me a lot and from a site I like Techpowerup.

"In terms of performance, RTX 2080 exceeds the performance of the GTX 1080 Ti by 9% both at 1440p and 4K, making it the perfect choice for 1440p gaming, or 4K when you are willing to sacrifice some details settings to achieve 60 FPS. Compared to the RTX 2080 Ti, the 2080 is around 30% behind. Compared to the Radeon RX Vega 64, which is the fastest graphics card AMD has on offer, the performance uplift is 44%."

That's right bang in my up to 50% performance upgrade that I'll pay for. I have absolutely no intention of buying a 4K monitor EVER. So a Ti version is not on my radar and if you look at the performance above, a Ti is 30% faster but about 50% more expensive for a decent AIB version. TBH 1440p @ 144hz is my sweet spot and the only reason I would buy a new monitor is if I could get a HDR 1000 for around £500. ATM no chance

I'm definitely buying the new Xbox next year so my next GPU upgrade will likely last me another 2 years at least just like my Fury and Vega 64 and may even be my last as I'll be 60 next year.

TBH during the summer I play golf most nights so only really game during the late Autumn or Winter so don't really need the top end card but I do like to own a 'high' end card so the 2080/super fits my needs. Honestly I'm not trying to convince myself

The 2080S will do okay for 144Hz 1440P. It won’t be amazing and you won’t hold over 100FPS in many games, especially with the CPU you’re running.

It’s a big upgrade over a Vega64, but is it $700 worthy? Up to you.

Yeah I get 70-120fps in TD2, some scenes brought my 1080 to high 40s! But it's definitely a pretty solid improvement. I know I'm CPU limited, but I did get more fps with my overclock, and after tweaking my wraith spire fan profile it gets to 53*C the card averages 1935Mhz @ 73*C which is fine IMHO. The other thing is it's less power hungry and cooler than a Vega64.

Firestrike Ultra and Timespy comparisons. I did not have a Timespy run on the Titan Xp with my 2600X.

Bare in mind the Titan Xp was overclocked on a AIO to 2000Mhz. 2080 Ti also overclocked to 2025Ghz, +500 MHz on RAM.

Samsung does 8000Mhz pretty much automatically.

Don't be pussies!

I don't think I'm CPU bound I'm more GPU bound at 1440p TBH. I do take your point that it's not a great upgrade for the money and I'm definitely going to bide my time before deciding.

I'm going to wait till the 5700xt AIB cards come out to see what they can do with noise and heat. I can get £$200 for my Vega 64 so another $£200 for a 5700XT is more than reasonable. Will then keep that until 5800/5900 come out or 3080 and decide what to do then if prices are acceptable It just means I need to deal with AMD drivers which is putting me off ATM.

There may be a buying wall of resistance starting for the extreme premium sku's like the rtx 2080 and 2080ti, there was 0 growth for the 2080 and negative growth for the 2080ti, according to Steam.
