Default Battle Royale (Batoru Rowaiaru)

Anyone seen it? I'd be interested to hear other peoples take on this movie.

For those that have not seen it the premise is this
Quote:
The turn of the century. Japan is on the brink of collapse. Fearing rising indiscipline and rebellion amongst the youth of the nation, authorities pass the Millennium Educational Reform Act, allowing the implementation of the ‘Battle Royale’ programme: classes of 14 and 15 year-olds are chosen at random and sent to a remote island where they are given weapons and three days to kill one another, until the sole survivor emerges as the winner…
Soooo cliché sounding(like mixing Naruto and FarCry) but I actually though the movie was pretty good(a little disturbing maybe though). I don't have much else to say about it really, gonna have to watch it again to form a better opinion my self.

I actually thought it was pretty original. Doesn't mean it was all that good. It was okay for a one time watch popcorn movie.

Oh, didn't know there was a second one. Although considering I kinda lucked out on the first being carried by my on-line rental service(extended Special edition version), I bet finding the 2nd one is not going to be so easy.

The first one was pretty good, mainly because it was something different, but they went overboard on the whole thing with Battle Royale 2.

Well from an anime perspective its not exactly the most unheard of thing for students of simlair age to be battling each other to the death.

*edit* mind you I didn't see it till 2days ago

I've seen both Battle Royale 1 and 2. Good flicks. Funny though, 2nd one was like glorifying terrorists.

It's funny you mention this movie because I just watched it a few days ago. It was alright I guess, came off as a live action anime, complete with the typical character archetypes, like the annoyingly emo male lead(neon genesis protagonist anyone?). The story really doesn't try to make an even somewhat believable reason that they would do these Battle Royales. It was rather just an angst filled story where the big bad grown-ups(who have the narrow mindset of little kids) can't deal with today's youth, who have all boycotted school. So of course the logical step is to set up a fight to the death for a 7th grade class every year.

I feel I would have like this film a lot more if I had seen it when I were still in my mid teens, but I suppose it was still a bit of a guilty pleasure. I would give it a 6/10.

Don't be too disappointed if you find it, because apart from that scene it's boring as hell.

Battle Royale was an interesting movie... Thought it was pretty decent but a little cliche.

they tried to make battle royale a lot more meaningful with a deeper plot... except they did a half assed job at it, but the school kids murdering each other means it is still an alright movie.
