Video games make kids fat: can't argue with that, even though I'm definitely an exception (6'0", 140lbs.)
Video games make kids violent: correction, video games make STUPID kids violent. If you're too damn dumb to know the difference between fantasy and reality, you deserve to spend your adolescent life in a jail cell.

True, but not at the expense of an innocent victim. There's no excuse for bad parenting and video games aren't parents.

They're too busy playing video games.

Video games don't cause violence. Lack of video games cause violence. Imagine all the people hurt because these kids don't have HL2, Doom III or Duke Nukem Forever to distract them.

Blame the manufacturers for delaying games.

the people who play games then commit crimes are the type of people who would commit a crime even if they didn't play games. I play video games, that's not going to make me go rob someone.

People don't think of all the good that games do--they improve eye hand co-ordination, make you think faster, etc. Also, if it weren't for games to take up time, there would probably be more kids doing drugs because they have nothing else to do

at this point, i really dont care what these reports say. i know if im getting fat. or violent. and im not getting neither of each.

also there is a resone why games today have the rating system. if people dont want kids playing violent games thene enforce that rating system, parents should play a bigger role. parents and unresponsible store owners are to blame, not the companie that make games.

Since the early 1900's, the latest form of entertainment has always been criticized as the reason for violence in children. In the 1920s, it was dime store comics, then it was movies, then television, and now it is video games. It is, and always was, bad parenting behind violence in children.

I think drinking Pepsi causes kids to become violent.
Kids raised on Coke are more passive.
Kids rasied on Dr. Pepper become computer programmers.
Kids rasied on 7UP become yuppies.
Kids rasied on Diet Cola eat more Ice Cream.

Argument: Video games don't make kids fat!
Counter-Argument: Eating while playing video games makes kids fat!
Solution 1: Don't eat while playing video games, you morons!
Solution 2: Don't buy your kids so much junk food, you stupid parents! Even if they weren't playing games, they'd still eat that crap you buy them and grow fat anyway!

Personally, parents should worried more about the social effects of video games, such as the one mentioned in the quote in my sig.

Lazy parents leave their kids to play games and watch tv, giving in to their cravings for fast junk food. The parents are to blame for not doing a good job on parenting.

Whats easier, interact with the kids and actually go out and do something, or plonk the kids in front of the telly/pc/xbox and dial them in a pizza ?

People who don't realise that since the kids are playing video games instead of going outside and playing with their friends, get fat....

So think of it this way for the VAST MAJORITY of video games all you have to do is sit in one spot, look at the screen, and press a few buttons. no other movement is required on your part.

Exactly - Which is why parents should be encouraging their kids to get outside and get some exercise, rather than sitting back and making campaign groups against those 'evil' video games...

I've got to agree with Hanners on this.

While videogames put kids in vegetative states for hours on end, if the parents wouldn't:

(1) Buy the games for the kids, then maybe they would get exercise
(2) Use TV/DVD as a baby-sitter, then maybe they would know their kids
(3) Pick up food on the way home as an alternative to cooking, then maybe we wouldn't have such high obesity rates
(4) Let their kids walk all over them, so they are forced to do (1) and (3) as a way to shut them up.

I had a great set of parents, one of who is a teacher, and it pisses me off when I have to hear about a parent coming in and *****ing about how she is the picking on their son/daughter. My Mom is tough, but fair, and if you don't do your work, you suffer, is that hard to understand or follow? You'd be surprised though, how many parents come in to her class and do not realize that their kid was not doing the homework and thus got a bad grade for it...

It comes down to parenting, and all of these freaking organizations can just shut up already. Shifting the blame only can go so far, and I'd love to see what is next, books? You know, reading A Tale of Two Cities just made me want to behead someone, I guess that classic must be to blame for something.
