ATI Technologies Catalyst 6.10 Beta Drivers for [email protected] GPU Released

A beta release of the Catalyst 6.10 drivers required to run [email protected] on your X1900/X1950-class Radeon are available for download on ATI's website. These come slightly ahead of the [email protected] GPU client that should be released later this afternoon.
[email protected] is a project developed by Stanford University that uses the power of your graphics processor to simulate protein folding. With a thorough understanding of how protiens fold, the scientific community will better understand the causes for many diseases and cancers - the first steps required for finding the cure.

You must download and install Catalyst Beta 6.10 to run the GPU accelerated [email protected] client on your PC.

In the future ATI plans to include OpenGL P965 CrossFire support. That will open CrossFire up to games like Quake 4 and Prey. ATI’s upcoming 6.10 driver brings with it official support for the Radeon X1950 XTX, and also other goodies like integrated support for HDR+AA in apps like Oblivion (this was previously provided under the separate Chuck patch driver).

These 6.10 drivers WILL NOT WORK FOR GPU FOLDING.

The ATI Folding FAQ has been updated as such.

ONLY the 6.5's work at this time.

And also not the entire truth. Project 2719 runs just fine (at least using the simple graphical client). Granted, project 2719 is only worth a point and is being completed at the rate of 4-5 seconds per frame, with only 100 frames, so that's still up to 175 PPD with a **** ton of WUs being submitted.
