Shaolin95 is still being judged by the masses

Default Since a USB mouse rate is 125hz what is the advantage of a highend mouse then?

I tweak my usb port to 500 hz with my old intellieye mouse. I was thinking about those Razor 1600 DPI , since the refresh is "normally" 125 hz will there be any difference from my current 300 dpi intellieye mouse by Microsoft? Maybe I am missing something and one thing doesnt affect the other so thats why I am asking...
Regards

Well, high-end meeces are not exclusively USB as PS/2 adapters and drivers are supplied. So you can have all the latest bells 'n' whistles and still use it at 200 Hz PS/2 and without dubious tweaks or the performance hit on the CPU that comes with USB (although it is relatively minor with modern systems).

In the instance of the razer mouse, the resolution of the mouse is much higher than your standard one. Meaning, if you move your mouse even in the slightest bit, the mouse will register a movement and send that to the computer. With your intellieye mouse, the movement requires to be ~5x more to be registered.

So even if you pump your usb rate to 500hz, it will be a lot of "no movements". With the razer mouse there will be more "moved" messages back to the computer, even though it is only at 125hz.

So which is better then? USB or PS2?

I was under the impression that USB was better.

I believe that PS/2 is better because it is dedicated for the mouse. USB probably takes more processing power.

Thats what I thought too but now it seems all gamers are using USB instead of PS/2 due to the higher rate. I for instance, noticed a nice improvement in my frag count just by changing my intellieye from the PS/2 to the USB port and using the tweak to run it at 500hz. Still it does causes some hiccups when gaming here and there.

You can tweak the PS/2 rate too!
