Default Essential spirits for a home bar

Trying to stock my home bar with some goodies again. What is it that I am missing in your opinion? I am not talking about specific brands, but rather basic spirits good to have around at all times.

Below is what I currently have.

* Brandy (Hennessy, Saint-Vivant)
* Light, Dark or Spiced Rum (Bacardi, Havana Club, Captain Morgan)
* Gin (Bombay Sapphire, Tanqueray)
* Tequila (Jose Cuervo Gold)
* Vodka (Belvedere, Gray Goose)
* Rye Whiskey (Crown Royal)
* Scotch (Glenfiddich 12 & 15 & 18 & 30, Talisker 10, Chivas Regal 12 & 18)

One thing I know of that's missing is bourbon, but it's difficult to find around here and I'm still looking (passively for several months now). I'm on my way to pick up a bottle of clear tequila now, so anything you throw out here will be considered to go along with that.

my favorite burbon is bookers ... but you should have a nice sipping burbon black and then sometype of mixing burbon like old crow. and what about some type of irish whiskey?

nice scotch selection ... i would add in there some glen morange port wood finished scoth (my personal favorite).

idd add sometype of mid grade vodka, such as kettle 1

your tequila selection is poor ...

and your completely missing any type of liquerors:
frangellica (my favorite)
kaluha
balilies
creme de minth
runner ups:
grand marnier
cherry marnier
triple sec
peach shnapps
malibu

and then some of that cherry syrup stuff

great start tho ...

Cognac is a type of brandy. I got cognac (Hennessy) and armagnac (St-Vivant).

Thanks.

I am not sure I want to go for liquors. I drink my booze straight up mainly, but perhaps you're right, I should get some for others. Triple Sec would be nice for some of those white wine sangrias my sister likes when she's over. But usually if it's something I can never drink straight up, I consider it difficult to spend money on.

As far as tequila goes, it's difficult as hell to get variety up here. What do you recommend?

And I've tried Glen Morange a couple of years ago. Don't remember what age that was exactly or what type, but I remember liking it. Just don't want to spend anymore on my scotch right now. Got a lot of money tied up there already and would like to expand other parts of my collection (even though I never touch anything but scotch/rye whiskey). Will keep an eye on it though. As far as it isn't sherry cask aged.

Isn't Irish whiskey the same thing as rye (or Canadian) whiskey? I'm not sure, I do drink a lot of Wild Turkey when ****-faced at bars. Don't remember what it tastes like at all.

IMHO, if you're drinking it straight up, never mind the "silver" or "white" tequilas, go for an aged 100% agave (sauza makes a relatively inexpensive one, I don't get the uber-$$$ tequilas, but tequila isn't my drink of choice).
I bought a half-gallon of sauza silver mixto for holiday margaritas and still have most of it...it has an overpowering flavor, I can't imagine it straight up.

You need to get some bourbon, bourbon, and more bourbon....although for sippin', get a bottle of "tennessee whiskey" (jack daniels or george dickel)

It's good that you have some blends in there for average scotch drinkers, but if you really want to round out your scotch collection my good friend get a 10 year Cask Laphroaig.

Talisker is very good but Laphroaig will be the Marilyn Monroe to your collection.

The only blended stuff I like is Chivas, although Ballantine is good and cheap. I will check out Laphroaig, but if it's too smokey I won't like it much. Not a fan of Talisker for that exact reason. Had to have it because of how unique its taste is. I like fruity finish of Glenfiddich, hence you see some many bottles in my collection.

Could use a bottle or two of vermouth/'s. No idea what to suggest brand wise, but it is a notable missing link in your list

Oh and your Vodka is all grain. Your missing a potato vodka.

I'd add Three Olives vodka over Grey Goose IMO. Much cleaner taste.

Also maybe add some schnapps to mix around with.

Can also get some some goldschlager, blue curraco, genadine get some fun stuff going. Good alchol is good but you have to have fun and get some mixes going.

Nothing is better than making your friends a bad ass named drink like pornstar or Alaskin Oil Slick to put them in their place.

Oh than dear God steer clear from Isla scotches . I am having some Laphroaig right now before bed. It's like a small Irish cottage by the sea arrested in flames in my mouth right now.

Truly epic.

Laphroaig will be your new best friend for life.
