Default Games Finished in July 2019

Thought about doing this series to kind of assist people and motivate them to finish their backlogs. As many have seen, I have completed a lot of games last year and still managed to do my hobbies, take care of family, career going strong and travel a lot.

Not every month someone will be finishing a lot, as there are months where a person just can't finish anything. Then you got that streak going in another month.

Also, if you plan to replay the game, it is fine but don't repeat it at a later month as first completion is what counts.

Another thing is the criteria of what is considered completed in unclear games such as team based multiplayer games; I would say set a target for that. E.g. I considered Overwatch completed when I reached level 100. Or when I finished story mode (which was a long movie sequence) in Guilty Gear Xrd Revelator. You decide what you consider is completed as long as it is reasonable to a certain extend and correlate-able to a single player experience.

DLC completed at a separate time from the main game and has enough content (+1 hour) can be counted as a separate completion.

Console completions can be accepted as long as the main focus is still PC overall.

Completed Games:
546-Mega Man X3
547-Flower
548-Shantae: Half-Genie Hero
549-A Plague Tale: Innocence

546-Mega Man X3: This one was so hard and honestly I just pushed through it to get it over with.

547-Flower: Not sure why this was popular at the time for it to even be considered for some awards. It was ok at best.

548-Shantae: Half-Genie Hero: Improved HD graphics with 3D elements. Somehow gameplay took a back seat versus past iterations.

549-A Plague Tale: Innocence: The best game I played for June. It was better than I expected. Reminds me of Hellblade but far better in my opinion. As Hellblade was more on rails and less gameplay elements. A Plague Tale seems to offer a superior balance. Highly recommended if you like these kinds of games. It is quite lengthy too (took me 11 hours).

Finished two games in July: one from the backlog, one obligatory new game.

FEAR: Extraction Point. It was okay. Had my fill of FEAR after it though.
MotoGP 19. One of the better Milestone games in recent years.

Working on The Last of Us: Remastered, but need a day or two more for that one. Still a masterpiece of a game that I will forever cherish. After that, it's just one more game to finish, to beat last year's record.

Zero games finished again.

Still playing Red Dead Redemption 2, and enjoying the hell out of it. Not in any rush to finish it (main story is done), and haven't been gaming much either.

Nine games. Funny month, should have been about the Steam Summer sale but instead I got a £1 trial for XBox live and milked it for all it was worth; West of Loathing, Stillness of the Wind, Metro Exodus, Night Call and Forza Horizon 4 ( Also played most of Hellblade and Wolfenstein II but abandoned both ).

Also finished Hidden Paws, Wandersong, Republique and Nelly Cootalot; Spoonbeaks Ahoy!

2 games.

Hitman: Blood Money: This game is so much more polished than the first 3. The mission structure is good too, several case scenarios, it is a fun game.
Hitman: Absolution: I like this game. I played it before when the game was released I guess, decided to play it again on GoG. Too bad the GoG version does not have achievements. I like what they did with the game, specially the challenges that you can complete if you want. This is why I only completed 2 games this month . I don't even remember why people complained about this game, it felt like a Hitman game to me.

Lots this month.

1. Everspace. Got to the end and played some more. I decided after completing the universe three times that I'd played enough, and have no motivation to finish it five more times to get the 'true' ending.

2.Wolfenstein II. Finished main campaign. Started Freedom Chronicles DLC but it keeps crashing, so I probably won't finish that.

3. Dark Future: Blood Red States. Finished all seasons. Still playing a bit for achievements. Fun game.

4. Amid Evil: Hell of a game. Wish I could experience it again for the first time.

5. NFS: Payback. Took me forever but completed the main campaign. Good racing. Horrible upgrade system.

6. Megaton Rainfall: Thought it would be more interesting than it is. Gameplay was mostly twitch-aiming, and the scenes that unfold were awesome at times, had a good pulse-driven soundtrack, but overall just wasn't fun to play. The best thing about it is free flight where you can explore space and fly over alien planet surfaces orbiting any of the thousands upon thousands of stars.

I finished off two games that I didn't really enjoy so much.

Dragon Age: Awakening- I've had this hanging over my head for years. I wanted to finish it to say I "completed" the full Origins game. Unfortunately, Dragon Age had sort of run its course with me after the main campaign. I actually started this expansion back in 2015 or 2016 some time, but only got an hour or so in. Then I went back to it a couple of months ago, and got to within an hour of finishing it, only to just lose interest on the last level. But, anyway, I finally beat it this month and it's off my list.

Arktika.1- This is a VR exclusive for the Oculus Rift. I started it back toward the end of 2017, or possibly even 2016 (definitely wasn't 2018). It had a clunky node teleport system that basically ruined the game for me. You teleported too far on each "hop" and your orientation often changed as well, which made the experience very disorienting. Because you moved in such a disjointed way, it made it hard for me to get a feel for how the level was put together. Instead of moving through the level, it felt more like I just moved randomly from one scene to the next. The combat was similarly lame, with you jumping around while the enemies acted like chickens with their heads cut off trying to track you, and the weapon balance also sucked (some weapons were laughably OP, while others were total garbage). Anyway, I also finally beat it out of stubbornness, but really did not enjoy it much at all.

With Absolution, the problem was that it had both sandbox missions where you complete the assassination, like Blood Money and the other Hitmans, but it also had infiltration missions where you just have to get from point A to point B. I think the sandbox missions were on par with the other games, but the infiltration missions simply weren't as good and just ended up wasting a lot of time.

They had some infiltration missions like that in OG Hitman 2 as well, and they likewise weren't as good as the actual assassinations, so I don't know why they suddenly unlearned their lesson for Absolution. Fortunately they learned it again with neo Hitman and Hitman 2.

People also didn't like the instinct changes or the QTEs, although I didn't find them too bad, personally.
