Default DIRT series - which is most sim like?

I own and for the most part like Dirt2 but wish for better physics.

Just wondering if any of the other ones are any better towards the sim aspect of vehicle handling?

No, they're all arcade racers.

Dirt3 was a little better in some aspects, however wasn't as fun to me for some reason. Showdown is completely arcade like smash'em up. Some of the demolition events are super fun however.

Colin 2, 4, and 5 are the most sim like. Dirt series is arcade, though Dirt 1 was my favorite since it actually had good rally tracks in it unlike Dirt 2 and 3, which you should avoid.

Limiting the discussion to the DiRT series, it would be their first and second iterations (1 & 2).

Richard Burns Rally is probably the closest I have ever played to true simulation.

Just got Dirt Rally on the free.

First impressions are the roads are seemingly a bit too narrow but the driving feels fairly real-ish from cockpit view so far.

Going to have to fire up RBR to compare.

RBR holds up quite well to the scrutiny of slomo even after 15 years.

Modded RBR that is... If you pull up vanilla RBR footage, it won't look that good. I would still load up Dirt Rally 1.0 instead just to not have to deal with mods and such. However, I'm not a hardcore rally guy so the ease of use with some good level of reality better suits me. If I were a hardcore rally guy, I would still continue to recommend RBR with it's mods.

Are you talking visually or handling, physics, damage and car reaction wise?

If you want the best of it all, play BeamNG.drive on some off road maps.
I really wish someone would license Beam's engine and make a comprehensive offroad racer with it.

Dirt Rally 2.0 fixes a lot of the airborne behaviour that was a bit screwy in Dirt Rally.

Saying this, it also doesn't seem to be enough of a difference to justify my getting it vs. Rally 1.

How do these compare to the WRC games?

I am talking about the physics behavior. The graphics, even modded out are pretty flat.

It's quite hard to get any sort of weird behavior from the cars in RBR, even when going airborne sideways.
And you can tell the physics engine operated at a very high tic-rate, which is what I meant by holding up to the scrutiny of slomo.
