Default 2010 Ford Fusion/fusion hybrid - Better fuel efficiency then Accord and Camry

For 2010, the Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan will offer Ford's all-new Duratec 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that is expected to deliver at least 3 mpg better on the highway than the Honda Accord and 2 mpg better than the Toyota Camry
-- Ford's next-generation hybrid system debuts in the new 2010 Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan hybrids. The more efficient system delivers a more seamless driving experience and is expected to achieve class-leading fuel economy, besting the Toyota Camry hybrid by at least 5 mpg city

Word needs to get out that Ford is here.

Good for Ford, I hope they expand their hybrid range, and come out with a Prius competitor. Ford licensed some parts of Toyota's hybrid system (patents) in exchange for some emissions control technology. In effect Ford had developed a hybrid system very similar to Toyota, good for them I hope it pays off.

Lucky ford owns a stake in a Japanese company with decent engine technology. Their indigenous designs have been pretty crap in general. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad they have access to the Mazda technology, I just believe the credit for this design should go to the designers.

"A Ford with better fuel efficiency than two other Japanese cars", and all we had to do was get the Japanese to design it for us

I don't see the big deal. They are a business and will do what makes money. Their are heated debates all the time on the Focus forums about Zetec actually being better for performance. Besides, the Fusion already has a Duratec 30 3.0l V6 and has had it.

Will it come in hybrid with AWD? If it does, and the reliabilty holds up, it will be considered.

an AWD powered will have awful performance. Hybrids are typicaly less horsepower then it's gas counterpart, and with AWD you will lose and additional 10-12% of power to power the front driveshaft.
