Default Games Finished in August 2019

Thought about doing this series to kind of assist people and motivate them to finish their backlogs. As many have seen, I have completed a lot of games last year and still managed to do my hobbies, take care of family, career going strong and travel a lot.

Not every month someone will be finishing a lot, as there are months where a person just can't finish anything. Then you got that streak going in another month.

Also, if you plan to replay the game, it is fine but don't repeat it at a later month as first completion is what counts.

Another thing is the criteria of what is considered completed in unclear games such as team based multiplayer games; I would say set a target for that. E.g. I considered Overwatch completed when I reached level 100. Or when I finished story mode (which was a long movie sequence) in Guilty Gear Xrd Revelator. You decide what you consider is completed as long as it is reasonable to a certain extend and correlate-able to a single player experience.

DLC completed at a separate time from the main game and has enough content (+1 hour) can be counted as a separate completion.

Console completions can be accepted as long as the main focus is still PC overall.

Completed Games:
550-Crash Bandicoot: N. Sane Trilogy
551-Metal Slug XX
552-Kill La Kill: IF
553-Darksiders III DLCs
554-DuckTales: Remastered
555-Katana ZERO
556-Space hulk: Deathwing - Enhanced Edition
557-this War of Mine
558-ReCore: Definitive Edition
559-Metro Exodus: The Two Colonels DLC
560-Onimusha: Warlords
561-Sunset Overdrive + DLCs

I guess I was busy this August, thanks mainly to some holidays and no money to go out (sunk into a business).

Anyhow, Here is my thoughts on my list:

550-Crash Bandicoot: N. Sane Trilogy: Never played the original games. I finally got to do so. First one was hard and then it gets easier. It is enjoyable but overall a challenge for perfectionists.

551-Metal Slug XX: Played this with my son. Honestly the worst in the series. Difficulty has been jacked up way too high. I can't imagine how people went through it in the arcades.

552-Kill La Kill: IF: Arena fighter based on the anime. Barebones really but solid gameplay. Though it does lack depth. Seems more like a fan service game and in that, it nails it.

553-Darksiders III DLCs: Crucible was meh but the second DLC was actually fun. Overall, not so bad.

554-DuckTales: Remastered: So much memories brought back from the TV series. The remaster does the franchise justice and it is such a tragedy for it to get delisted.

555-Katana ZERO: Side scrolling Hotline Miami with a Sword! The game is solid but honestly, I never got the story.

556-Space hulk: Deathwing - Enhanced Edition: Played this Coop with a friend from start to finish. Solid design and art, respects the source material. Gameplay wise, repetitive but if you ever wanted to do missions in a Spacehulk as a Space Marine in the 40k franchise with friends, this is the best thing so far and it does it well if not great.

557-this War of Mine: The Sims but in a war setting. Really not my cup of tea. It can get too sad.

558-ReCore: Definitive Edition: The game starts phenomenal and with promise for potential, but then after sinking some hours, you see how a chore it is and overly repetitive. The trek towards the end didn't help either. It was ok and traces of Megaman are clearly present from a gameplay design perspective. It just didn't work so well.

559-Metro Exodus: The Two Colonels DLC: I thoroughly enjoyed this DLC despite it's short length (honestly, 2 hours for a linear gameplay with story isn't that bad). One of the better experiences during the month.

560-Onimusha: Warlords: Samurai Demons, not Zombies, Resident Evil. It still was enjoyable.

561-Sunset Overdrive + DLCs: The gem of the month. This game actually turned out way better than I expected and not only that, I enjoyed it so much, I did all the main missions and the side missions. Only thing I didn't complete are the collectibles, even though I did more than 50%. It suffers from stuttering by design but thankful, the game was so much fun I managed to let that pass.

1. Sunset Overdrive. Surprised that with as much that happened in this game that I have less than 24 hours of playtime with all side quests and main completed. Fun game.

And 2. (If you'll allow it). Wolfenstein II DLC missions. Took a lot of time getting it to stop crashing and finally figured out that loading from autosaves was causing it.

Managed to (re-)beat one game.

I replayed Mirror's Edge Catalyst. Still a great game. You guys should check it out if you haven't. It's too bad it didn't sell that well apparently. I'd love to see another one.

Looks like I also managed to beat my pathetic tally from last year!

Let's see if I can finish strong and get back to 10 games for the year!

Strange that there were two other than me who have been playing Sunset Overdrive in the same month, considering it is an old game.

@MNB90210: I noticed the same thing. I had the game on my wishlist for almost a year and bought it during a sale (maybe Summer sale?). Just felt like playing something easy/fun. Turned out not to be easy in the very beginning, but still fun.

I was on vacation for over a week in August, which cut into playing time. I also started Divinity: Original Sin 2, which obviously takes a *lot* of time. Not done yet with that one by a long shot.

So, I finished two games:
* The Last of Us Remastered. I've been looking forward to playing through this one since 2015, when I finished TLOU on Playstation 3. Seriously one of the very best games I've ever played. Replaying it with better graphics and frame rate is certainly worth it, and I am already looking forward to playing it for a third time. I think I'll do that in the lead-up to TLOU2.
* ISLANDERS. A wonderful city building sim that takes very little time to learn, but quite a bit of time to master. Really relaxing and intoxicatingly addictive. Costs about €5 or so on Steam, well worth it.

With that, I think I've already matched last year's tally! Celebration!

1 game.

Hitman (2016): Yeah, I spent an entire month with this game. I've finished it, but decided to keep playing for the challenges, so... Anyway, the game is fun as the other Hitman games. I will eventually play Hitman 2, but I seriously need a break from these games.

Another month with zero games finished.

Still plodding along with Red Dead Redemption 2. Not doing much gaming lately.

So easy to spend a month with Hitman 2016 if you do those additional creative contracts! I loved that! I do agree though, jumping back in for Hitman 2 requires a bit more downtime. Not the type of game you play every year, I think, unless you're... Well, a professional hitman.

To me, it is one of those games that just seemed average but turned out to be amazing. I hope it did well sales wise!
