WTF are you talking about? My house had existing 200 amp service. All I needed to do was have a 60 amp breaker installed with wiring to my garage for my Tesla Wall Connector. I paid $1100 for the electrical and $500 for the Wall Connector

It would have been $500+ less had I gone with a 50 amp breaker, had a NEMA 14-50 outlet installed, and used the mobile connector that came with the car.

The reason I didn't is that the mobile connector on a 50 amp circuit will only charge about 30 miles per hour. The Wall Connector can do 44 miles per hour on the 60 amp circuit.

I drive hybrid cars except the van and it only has the capacity to go 32 miles on EV. I don't rely heavily on electric.

If you really want to protect the grid from overuse you need to advocate for people to STOP ****ING HAVING KIDS.

Nothing weighs heavier on the grid that more people.

I completely understand your concern for the people on medical devices and will miss you when you shut down your PC to help them out during the extreme heat this summer.

the problem here is, that instead of providing the needed infrastructure for that many EVs in a first step, the politicians promote to buy EVs and THEN _start_ to think about the infrastructure they need for them. Which is sadly the way it goes almost every time.......which alread led to charging problems all over the place. People start to get frustrated with their pricey gimmicks. Mind you only ~45% here own a house, so even charging at HOME is an issue for many people.

Dang, that's a ton. I filled up yesterday (2015 Impala), from almost empty it was $65 here. I think it was $4.75/gallon.

The one silver lining to all this that I'm extremely grateful for is I now work remote full time, so I no longer have a long commute. I don't drive much at all anymore, and pretty much only need to get gas about once a month. Really feel bad for folks that do still have a long commute.

the only good thing is that we also can work from home, although not 100%, just 50% but still. Can't imagine if we had to work 100% away from home, would be a nightmare fuel-wise.

and that's good for you but as a air conditioning contractor i am in peoples breaker boxes all the time changing bad breakers or killing power to change disconnects on a/c's

and 125 or 150 amp service is about 80% of houses till they go over 2000 Sq feet or newer than 10 years here in Phoenix
and just about every house i work on that is 20 years or older is all ready overloaded on breakers added into the box
hell i still see boxes with round screw in fuses a lot

and there is a breaker shortage now prices have gone nuts of breakers and boxes, wire
i have a 150 amp service now and need a 100 amp line for the Ford Lighting
it only needs 80 amps but they want a 100 amp wire and breaker

120 amp wire 1/0 THHN/THWN-2 Building Wire is only about $3.51 a foot and i only need 150 feet or so

When I bought my house, it only had a 100A system; had it upgraded to a 200A before we moved in. Yeah, my bro was bitching about that all the way home on our recent road trip from CA to IA. He lived there for the past 4 years before he retired from the Air Force and moved back here 3 weeks ago. CA is a ridiculous state.

That aside though, just saying V8's are the problem is absurd. My 750hp supercharged V8 gets better gas mileage than a lot of my friends 4cyl cars (OEM stock cars too). Facts are facts. I understand the point he's attempting to make, but V8's themselves aren't the problem.

Tesla solar is biding changing my box with the solar they need a solar ready box anyway and only new houses have them and only sometimes

and with a 40 amp to one shed and a 60 amp to the workshop with a milling machine and metal lathe and 80 gal air compressor and 3 welders i am already just a little overloaded

i''m going to need a 250 to 300 amp box

i would DIY the solar and box but the power co. here are dicks about doing it yourself

Still 4.19 over here in refinery town. It'll keep going up until no one can afford it. Been seeing more motorcycles scooting about lately. I know when I was up in Dallas last time gas prices was high, also saw more of those three wheeled things as well. Hope WFH comes back now that we surely know it can be done for a lot of white collar jobs and today e-bikes are also a consideration that weren't around the last time. I think Kev Central mentioned Walmart was selling a Schwinn mountain e-bike around $799

They cost me almost nothing in gas (since they rarely get driven), so I have nothing to justify. I was just saying that V8's aren't the only problem. For your statement to work, you probably should just say "all sports cars". I was trying to say that there are 4cyl sports cars that get worse gas mileage than V8's. I laughed at the blanket statement, not "cars that get terrible gas mileage"...because that statement includes a WIDE variety of cars and engine sizes.

By the way...what kind of car is that V8?

My argument was never really against V8s. It was with people that purchased one being bitchy about the rise in GAS prices.

My 5.7 V8 gets better MPG than my wife's explorer sport with the 3.5 ecoboost. Truck is heavier and has more HP.

153$ per quarter if they basically gave you free gasoline.

I was just laughing at "anyone with a V8 should get their head checked comment". It was funny... Don't care what others think of my car or V8's, honestly.

Cars like the Ford Focus RS and Subaru STi typically get worse gas mileage. Tons of V6's that get worse. On average V8's ARE worse, that's why a lot of them are going away. Sports cars are the problem though, not just V8's. Good luck making sports cars disappear.

Yeah, the modifications affected it slightly. It's more because of the cam than anything. It now gets 18/26 mpg.

I didnt buy my cars with gas mileage in mind...i was ready to pay the prices for these because

1.) BMW X1: You get into the luxury makes, now you gotta pay to play since everything upkeep-wise is more expensive than mainstream brands. Plus, wife's car, her family is a BMW household so she needed to join in the fray when she could

I have a Model 3 and solar panels so that's really really awesome mashAllah.
I also have a gas-guzzling GLC 300 but I drive 15 mins to work so I end up paying about $160 a month in gas.
Having said that, I am fully aware that I belong to the privileged few who are not affected (directly) by rising gas prices.
I hope things get better but from where I am sitting I don't really see how.
