Default New phone time

  • HTC Hero
  • Bberry Tour
  • Bberry Storm
  • Bberry Curve (new one)
  • Bberry Storm2
  • HTC Touch PRO
  • iPhone

Any other ideas? I have been a crackberry user for years and years but I am willing to switch -- the only thing I will miss is the bberry messenger. If anyone has any hands on insight I would appreciate it.

thanks.

Blackberry's are good, but their OS is loss and that trackball on their phones needs some fine tuning.

HTC Hero may be your best bet. I played with my girlfriend's brother's phone this past weekend. The OS is a little awkard and slow, but then again, I only spent 15 minutes on it.

I would go with the iPhone of the 3GS kind.

Well all the new crackberrys have been replaced with a little nav pad instead of the blackberry clitoris...

I have never had issues with the bberry OS but after playing around with the gf's HTC I really liked it.

I am not a big fan of anything apple so I will need to be sold on it.

I use a BB for work, good phone but not really that fun.

I've used two HTC phones and not found them reliable.

iPhone 3GS serves me well, watching Stargate on the train ride to/from work, gaming, etc. However, I do have a business phone so keep this in mind.

Purchased a Motorola Droid (Verizon) on Friday, and am really digging it. Only neg so far is rather abysmal battery life, depending on usage (GPS seems to really drag it down).

I should have looked closer at your list - looks like you're w/ AT&T?

I'd probably have gotten an iPhone a couple years ago if not for Apple/AT&T exclusivity.

Seems to be a side effect of the OMAP3430 processor in the Droid and Pre... both have less than standard battery life, especially on GPS.

He lives in Canada.

The big players are : Bell, Rogers, & Telus.
We don't have AT&T.

I am guessing that he uses Telus - the most popular option for Albertans.

Smartphone list.

I have the 9700 and it is really nice. I like the trackpad. I upgraded from a 8320 and notice a huge difference.

Isn't the Tour almost like the 9700?

The 9700 is listed there so why not consider it? Get that if you want a Blackberry with a real keyboard.

HTC Hero or Nokia N900. But I'd go for the Hero anyway, since I do not trust Nokia enough to keep their Maemo OS up-to-date. They've failed doing it before, why should it change?

now that Telus supports GSM or rather HSPDA if you wanted to you could just get an unlocked phone from elsewhere and just stick a SIM card in it. You're not limited to what they carry anymore.

Hero, especially over the Touch Pro. TP is bulky and the screen will end up seeming very small. It's a little slow too, can hardly handle HTC's Touch FLo(manilla)

This. ^

This was confirmed by 3 different Telus reps at the stores, who agreed with me that their phones suck, and that they will be importing the good ones from overseas and sticking the SIM chip in it.

Black Berry's are good and for some reason, they ship then to phone
companies with 4 revisions behind in they firmware.

I have a Javelin and after an upgrade, it was excellent and battery life
improved 4 folds.

I wonder how long until they figure out a way to ban non-original Telus devices...

I always loved the Telus commercials that preach about their openness and freedom, yet god help you if you try to use a non-Telus phone via the CDMA network... Yeah no way in hell, could you bring a phone onto their network.

Prior to this year the same applied with CDMA carriers in the states, but the FCC eventually passed a regulation where carriers have to accept unlocked CDMA devices on their networks. Wish I had the money and patience to buy, unlock, and port a Droid over to Sprint.
