Yes but why?

No I mean, use an audio system connected to TV via arc or optical. But I guess he doesn't have one, only PC speakers.

Not for the computer I assume.

You know what I mean though, PC > HDMI > TV > ARC/optical > speakers. Seems like a clean and logical set up to me.

Yeah, I was trying to get a way to use my PC speakers for my TV and my current PC speakers don't have any inputs except standard 1/8" stereo jacks.

The TV speakers aren't the greatest, and it would be nice to use PC speakers if I ever use it to watch shows through the TV apps, or when I connect my PS4 to it. Just trying to open up more options.

Once you choose Optical Out for the audio, your only options for the signal are Auto, PCM, or Passthrough. None of which did anything.

My story with monitors, ever since I decided to drop triple-screen, is turning into a living nightmare.

First try in late november, a 34” AOC I had to substitute for its defective panel, followed by a second one which I decided to return alltogether due to overall sub-par image quality.
Two days ago the Gigabyte G34WQC comes in.
Assembled on my desk last night it finds me finally satisfied out of the box with color quality, uniformity and screen clarity.

Only to notice, a minute later, a dark spec of who the hell knows what, stuck between the front panel and the matrix behind, halfway to the right.
Nope, no dead or unresponsive pixels. Simply a particle of something that shouldn’t be there, slipped through during assembly and quality control, or simply as a result of poor handling. Impossible to ignore.

Pretty damn effin frustrated at this point. Three months and still playing the mothereffin monitor lottery, while it’s actually the goddamn lottery playing and screwing with me

If you wanted a 27 inch 1440p panel i would have recommended this Eizo
https://www.eizo.com/products/foris/fs2735/

In the 32 inch department maybe consider an LG UltraFine 32EP950 OLED monitor
They are for photography so QC may be good. The price will be GOOD too.
At least less chances to be screwed at lottery with this one.

IMHO native resolution is better than dropping to 1080. As everyone has pointed out it's just a series of compromises you have to make to get you to where you want to be. You can turn some settings off, reduce to medium or low just experiment until you find that sweet spot that gives you the FPS you want. This is what I did with my 5700XT and it worked well. Don't need to do it now of course because I could afford the Ferrari GPU so I bought it.

Unfortunately badsykes you want own a Ferrari but you only have the budget for a push bike. Sadly it's not going to happen. Work out your budget then get the best bang for buck you can afford and buy it.
Actually it's 8 bit + FRC. I have it, actually sold my LG GN27950 (4k 144fps), and I'd take the Acer over it any day. I much prefer 32" WQHD over 27" 4k, 27" is just too small, and there is no perceivable difference in pixels, and the Acer is way easier to drive at a higher refresh rate. However I am considering returning the GP, and going with the GX just for the even higher refresh rate. Not sure it's worth $100 though.

Hey I've got them attached to my PC, in 5.1 surround sound. I'm actually getting rid of them and replacing them with a Creative SBXFI Gamer headset as she who must be obeyed has made me remodel the study meaning I have nowhere to put the rear speakers that she'll accept

Hopefully i'll finish tomorrow and headset arriving early next week. I've got a pair of Sennisher ones that will do until then. All this because she like my new UWQHD monitor and she thought it would look better if we (meaning me!!) made some changes. It is what it is and not too bothered as the wiring on these things is a nightmare so it will free up a lot of space.

For my 49" 4K TV I have a Yamaha tuner and 5.1 JBL surround sound speakers and they sound great. Have my XboneX hooked up to these via the tuner and it's awesome. Bought them just as Atmos was coming out and thought the extra cost not really worth it. Still think that.

This is my monitor.

No issues everything great but like you said it could be panel lottery but I'm liking it very much.

I looked at both the AOC and Gigabyte monitors and very glad I bought the iiyama.

The point is that even if I returned the Gigabyte for the Iiyama, I'd probably be getting the one model out of 10,000 with a fault. No matter what monitor I buy, I seem to get a faulty model.
Drives me completely nuts.
Not to mention the time and effort wasted, since this whole thing started in late November and I haven't been using my gaming pc since.

EDIT: just checked the Iiyama review on Amazon (it's on my wishlist) and it has pretty much the same rate of positive comments as the Gigabyte. For both monitors, if you scroll down, you will eventually find a couple of poor bastards who had nothing but problems. I fall into that very same category.

I’m posting a screenshot by one of the aforementioned poor bastards, taken from the Iiyama monitor user reviews on Amazon. I have THE SAME EXACT problem on my Gigabyte.

I did too on my gigabyte but i worked on the area and it went away. I ran a few pixel refreshers off the internet and it fixed itself somehow, hasn't come back since.

Just keep working on it and using the pixel refreshers and maybe you can get it unstuck.

Unfortunately mine are not dead pixels. I tried the empirical parallax test which simply consists in putting the mouse cursor underneath the black spot and moving your head to the left and to the right while keeping your eyes on the spot itself. If the spot stays fixed within cursor boundaries, it's pixels. If the spot moves relative to the cursor as you move your head, it's a foreign body. The latter is my case. I even tried a suction cup to no avail. I can get pretty obsessive at nitpicking, so I'd rather avoid the risk of damaging the monitor, but at this rate I'm terrified at what happens with the next monitor, which would be my fourth.

I have until March 26 to return it. I'll give it some time and see if anything changes. Thanks for your input

I would RMA it. That's unacceptable. Really sucks that you've had such poor luck..

I only buy monitors at Microcenter. Their return policy makes it really easy to get the perfect panel.

I find this situation kinda funny...Lurk just replaced almost 4 gaming monitors and i bought an open box photography monitor and it doesn't have dead pixels, hairs, uniformity stuff or other visible defects. It comes even with calibration certificate specific for the serial number.Benq is by no means a premium brand.
I feel the manufacturers treat the gaming market with the bottom ass. Also the segment that buy gaming monitors seems to accept this otherwise manufacturers would have problems with sales.
I had a fear to end up buying a mainstream gaming manufacturer exactly for the reasons Lurk encounters.I knew the lottery that is going in the mainstream gaming market.I was a bit afraid to jump into this pool and begin a back and forth process of send/receive monitors.
I have looked also at an LG 27GL850-B model. The online shop have one open box and says it has 2 defect pixels. This monitor is the same price as mine 400 euros / 400$ new.I find that at this price bracket it still has problems with dead pixels is just show how we are treated.

10-Bit vs. 8-Bit: Does Monitor Panel Bit Color Depth Matter?

Seems we entered in the age of 10bit already and i didn't know this.Intersting

Yes, and to be honest, you should aim to get one anyway. As we just said, 8-bit is very 1980s. In an age of 4K HDR you really want to have a 10-bit display to get the benefit of modern graphics and content.
Games for contemporary PCs and modern consoles all render in 10-bit as a minimum, and HDR is becoming universal. Of course, they’ll work just fine with a low cost 8-bit panel but you’ll miss out. Even more expensive 8-bit monitors and TVs with HDR support exhibit limitations. For example, on Xbox One X a dithered 8-bit display (which simulates 10-bit as best as possible) can only work with basic HDR10. Proper 10-bit displays open up Dolby Vision and HDR10+ options.
In that regard gaming’s no different from serious movie watching, streaming, photography, or video editing. For all of them, source content keeps increasing in detail and quality. Obviously, the display you use should keep up with the content, not stay stuck in the past. That means 10-bit or more, since 8-bit, while reliable and proven, simply doesn’t show you the whole picture.
With 10-bit you get a more detailed image and as resolution increases, there are more details to display. Force a game to run on an 8-bit panel and you’ll get less complex darks, washed out or banded brights, and approximated textures instead of the ones intended by the artists. Even if not shocking, the difference is becoming increasingly important.

Quote:
Luckily, the choice continues to become easier for prospective monitor or TV buyers. In general, 8-bit panels are being phased out as 10-bit takes over and 12-bit signals a move to the mainstream. Don’t get us wrong, there are plenty of excellent 8-bit monitors out there still. But there’s no way they can do justice to the high quality content produced these days. There’s simply no reason not to go with a 10-bit panel if you can – and we recommend you do.

I agree, it's pretty damn unacceptable.
Besides piss-poor QA, afaik bad handling could also be the culprit.
The box was in excellent shape, but I would imagine that if these things hit a surface hard on the flat side, the tiniest piece of assembly residue within the monitor casing could pretty much go flying anywhere.
I'm going to be pretty harsh with Amazon on the matter, not that it's going to make a difference

From the design of most monitors - and other hardware - out there, you can pretty much tell what opinion manufacturers have of gamers.
Who knows, if the G34WQC had flashy RGB lasers maybe I wouldn't have noticed the flaw on the screen
