Stolen from resetera:

Text version:

Quote:
Hello ,

Thank you very much for contacting us.

The launch was previously planned for distribution on Steam, however it was decided together with Deep Silver after much discussion that the Epic Games Store would be the best distribution platform option.

Shenmue III will be distributed through the Epic Games Store and will require the Epic Games Store Client to activate.
Even though the surveys stated that the PC version rewards will be through Steam, those rewards will now be be delivered through the Epic Games Store.

We apologize for the sudden change in platform, however, refunds will not be granted for this change.

We thank you for your support and look forward to delivering the Shenmue experience fans everywhere have been waiting so long for.

Best Regards,
The Shenmue III Team
Something tells me that their policy of no refunds wont hold.

Hello guys.

My name is Crawdaddy79, and I own the original Shenmue on Dreamcast. I bought it the week that it came out and played it for a dozen hours or so, over the course of a month. I stopped playing it because I did not enjoy it.

I have no excitement for Shenmue 3, especially considering that I have Yakuza 0 waiting to be installed since it came with some Humble Monthly months ago.

When I am done with Yakuza 0 and am ravenous for more of that type of gameplay, I will consider Shenmue 3. But not if it's only on the Epic Games Store (it's a **** digital storefront). I would sooner buy a console and play Shenmue 3 on that.

Very truly yours,

Crawdaddy79

During the time of the campaign, when people were putting their money in, there was no mention of Steam at all, it was just stated as PC Digital. it wasn't until 3 years later that Steam was actually mentioned, and it was during the backer survey to choose if you want the PC or PS4 version.

They started promising a steam version earlier than that according to the backers posting at the resetera forum.

It's still a dick move considering the community funded development and now they're being put on the sideline.

Why even lie about it being a better user experience? Nobody will believe that when Epic are still in the process of putting in a lot of features.

Just say, "we got a truck full of cash from Epic and couldn't say no."

I wish they would be more specific in what they mean by that. Cause is could even mean that the game itself is going to be better than what it could be due to extra funding from Epic. Or it could just be PR speak and the game won't be any better on EGS as it would if it was on Steam.

There is another developer who has their game exclusive, Double Damage for Rebel Galaxy Outlaw. Now these guys didn't take up front money, rather they got the guaranteed revenue. They stated that since they know what to expect for the first year, they are able to invest more of their money into the game and are making it better than what it could be without the Epic deal.

I finally gave in and installed the Epic client. Mostly because I've wanted to check out Subnautica, and it was $7.49. So I guess I'm no longer in the "I'll only buy it if it's on Steam" camp.

Either way, I just don't get the whole kickstarter thing, why someone would blindly give money for something that they have no idea how the final product will be. Same with pre-purchases. Sorry, but if you give them money before knowing how the game turns out, you have less of a right to bitch.

We're not even talking physical product, just a key.

It's like any "investment" in real life. Money is being provided for an idea in hopes it's realized as it was presented. Unfortunately, nothing happens in this world today without money so Kickstarter has been a way for smaller ideas to get funding to come into existence.

You haven't kept up on the news lately? Apex Legends dropped like a rock, mean while Fortnite kept on going up.

https://www.superdataresearch.com/wo...-games-market/

Fortnite in the top 5 grossing for the month of April, and Apex Legends was removed from the list, only earning 1/4 of the revenue that they did in the first month.

There are other areas which they seem to have missed too. DLC is a big one. I know its three letters that make most people cringe but I have Hades and Edith Finch on Epic, both of which I would like the soundtrack for.

Hades ( as yet ) appears not to have one but that would be a first for Supergiant Games. Edith Finch though does and has been on sale on other sites. Of course, I can't buy DLC on other sites to a game I don't own there. Epic though have never made the soundtrack available.

Metro Exodus seems to be an even worse situation where owners of the base game seem only able to buy the gold edition rather than a season pass.

Seems Epic really need to step up if they want this to work.

You can buy the Expansion pass for Metro Exodus. When you are on the store page, on the top you see different tabs, one of them is the Expansion pass.

Here is teh direct link
https://www.epicgames.com/store/en-U...expansion-pass

and you can buy DLC for DarkSiders 3.

So think Edith Finch not having the soundtrack might be more about the dev/pub just not providing it for what ever reason.

Yeah I noticed the Expansion Pass after I posted. You do need to look for it though as its not found by the search function while on the product page you've got to scroll past the two base editions and all the description.

So yes, they're not quite so bad but still room for improvement.

The thing I really don't get is how does EPIC, with their seemingly endless amounts of cash, have such a primitive e-games store? Even Steam had more functions at their launch and they were the pioneer! Hell, they aren't even the third, or 4th...they are like the 100th at this point. EPIC just doesn't have the excuse to be this sloppy, slow, or lazy in their method of distribution.

Are you kidding?
