Default Data Recovery

Yeah, chalk another one up to quality Microsoft software. Wonderful journaling filesystem my ass... although this may be the first non-h/w related NTFS issue I've ever had in eight years or so. I tried another newer HDD inside the enclosure and I get the same problem with the new case so I'm not going to rule how h/w failure entirely but it looks more software related.

Anyways, I have a 250GB external drive over USB which had data on it that is now *gone*. Anyone know of any good software for data recovery?

It says that the drive did not have write ahead enabled for the drive but lo-and-behold I got a write ahead error on it and now everything is *poof* gone. Drive appears to be fine otherwise and it's rather new (August).

I'd try using my Mac but I can't write NTFS and there wouldn't be enough space on its 40GB HDD anyhow.

You can probably run chkdsk /f on the drive to repair the error. Try that first.

Otherwise, go here for free data recovery software.

GetDataBack is another good program I have used on numerous occasions to retrieve what I thought was lost data. Cannot install on the drive you want the data back from however. Here is the link.
