Default Elvis Presley currently at #1 on UK Top 40 Singles Chart!!

Normally I don't share my personal life here or start my own threads in the Off-topic forum, but I find this to be pretty amazing. Elvis Presley is currently at #1 on the UK Top 40 Singles Chart! A remix was done of a song entitled "A Little Less Conversation" from the 1968 movie "Live A Little, Love A Little." The remix, done by Dutch DJ/Producer 'Junkie XL,' was used in the Nike commercial "The Tournament." This being the 25th anniversary of Elvis' death on August 16th, 1977, BMG/RCA are spending a lot of time and money promoting Elvis. As you can see it paid off. Being a huge Elvis fan (it's the only music I listen to - I'm 18 years old), I am really excited about this. This is Elvis' first #1 hit in the UK since "Way Down" in 1977, and brings Elvis' total #1 hits in the UK to 18 - more than anyone else. For those of you who still care and are actually reading this, you can listen to the 3 version of "A Little Less Conversation" here:

http://www.elvis.com/news/full_story.asp?id=197

You can watch the soccer commercial here:

http://nikefootball.com (Click on downloads, on the bottom)

And please don't come in here and make some sort of lame "Elvis is fat" joke. It's really not funny, and certainly not necessary. I'm watching you, Pudak (he's a friend of mine).

I guess Elvis has still got it. It's a great year to be an Elvis fan.

You're damn right Elvis rocks! Elvis is great. And this #1 hit just proves it even more. Although I have plenty of other 'proof' as to why he's the greatest. Not that he needs any proof, of course.

That's all I was saying, Zep. I forgot to mention the fact that the US single comes out on June 25th. Not that anyone here is gonna buy it, but I thought I'd mention it.

He has the nicest house in the Ghetto . I live about 15 minutes from Graceland and 10 minutes from his ranch in Mississippi. They are thinking about making his ranch into an Elvis theme park and a golf course. Pretty cool idea I think. I like some of his older older music. Some of the first songs I ever learned how to play on my guitar was Elvis songs.

Yeah, I read about the ranch idea (of course... I'm an Elvis fan ). There were some problems though because the ranch is not owned by Elvis Presley Enterprises. The $600 million plans are quite grand, though:

"[They want] to build 650 condominiums, two hotels, two 18-hole golf courses, a convention center, a museum, three wedding chapels and an indoor amusement park."

Unfortunately for them, 'Elvis' and 'Elvis Presley' are registered trademarks. I think they got permission anyway, though. I'll be going to Memphis on August 12 for Elvis Week, but I don't think it'll be done by then.

Yeah, me too. I actually learned "Love Me Tender" as my first song. But I agree, many of the early songs are easy to play (songs like Blue Suede Shoes, Blue Moon of Kentucky, That's All Right) and use mainly the same chords (A, E, D, and B). The best thing, though, is the fact that when you play the songs they can sound very similar to the original recordings, due to the fact that the early stuff only had 2 guitar players, a bass player, and a drummer. It still sounds great, though.

A minor update. The single is now also #1 on the singles charts of the following countries:

Greece
Australia
Denmark
Norway
Ireland

It's also on several other countries' charts, but it's not at #1 (yet). Pretty amazing, if you ask me. Elvis is still popular, even 25 years after he died.

So you like the song, eh? Well, maybe I can convince you to buy it then? So it's actually at #13? The latest I heard was that it was at #14, but that (mainly Dutch) website doesn't update on the weekends. So I guess you hear the song a lot in Holland. My friend in Holland (I'm Dutch as well, but haven't lived there in 7 years) said he hears it a lot, too. Of course, he's also an Elvis fan, so he listens for it.

I have all the Elvis stuff, probably got it before half the users on this board were born. Yes it's on the nice black copy protected format. I have it on CD to but it's just not as good.

Woo-hoo, a fellow Elvis fan! You probably got all your stuff before I was born too! I'm only 18 years old, but I am a huge Elvis fan, and have been since I was about 8 I think. It might even be earlier than that. It's the only music I have listened to (and bought) since I was a child, so I have a lot of CD's by Elvis. Hell, I have only Elvis CD's (and a few records). So we could have a nice little Elvis discussion going here. We can have this thread up for a loooong time... (if it were up to me). Anyway, what is your favorite Elvis? I prefer 1970. There is so much amazing stuff from that year. That's the way it is (a ton of stuff here, including the 3 CD set and the new DVD), On Stage, Country, and more. I have listened to "A Hundred Years From Now" (the CD) about a million times. Same goes for CD 3 from "Walk A Mile In My Shoes." So, do you also collect the Follow That Dream CD's? Do you buy the new CD's at all?

A minor update once again. The single is now ALSO at #1 in:

Mexico
The Netherlands

Cool! It has gone platinum in Australia and Norway, and is still climbing the charts in other countries. The movie "Lilo and Stitch," which features 5 (original) Elvis songs and several covers is also the #2 movie in the US, second only to "Minority Report."

Hmm... well I heard the original on the Oceans Eleven soundtrack and think I almost prefer it to the new one! Its the only Elvis song I have ever liked, but its so catchy

Cool

... and so ends another intelligent post by Onde Pik. You know, he might be a dead guy, but he's a dead guy with a #1 hit in seven countries right now (and still counting). And I agree with you, Chicane-UK, the original version is better. But if you buy the single, you get both versions (hint hint). You can listen to the original version online, too, at the link I provided in my original post. Well, it comes out in the US tomorrow (Tuesday, Jun 25th) so we'll see how it does. Although I strongly doubt that it'll reach a #1 here too. Recently Elvis has sold better in Europe than in the US. I don't know why. After all, he is American...
