Default The Expanse - A new Scifi show on :gasp: the SyFy channel

I've watched the first three episodes and it's pretty good so far, currently watching the fourth one. It's not a formula show as in it's not a new "case" each episode but instead each episode progresses the story. The acting is pretty solid too with a great variety of characters. The sets don't look cheap and the cgi is nice. Seems like a lot was invested into this, both money and thought.

Story trailer:

It makes a LOT more sense if you read the books it closely follows (so far). Definitely recommended.

Couldn't get past the first episode's first 15 minutes. Just bad acting, writing, exposition, CGI, everything.

Want to give it another shot but ugh...

Ya same here, I think the problem I'm having is it moves too slow... so much wasted time and unnecessary dialogue and action... in good scripts every scene has a purpose and all dialogue is relevant...

Exposition is a purpose. I don't think the dialogue so far is pointless, but it's really awkward and bad. Almost made it to the end of the first episode, so many physics problems bugging the crap out of me (zero-g humping? hanging someone by their armpits?).

Right or wrong, it's following the first book pretty closely. This means it requires patience for the payoff, and will slowly build characters and plotlines (they're interconnected, even if they don't seem it yet). Can SyFy deliver the payoff convincingly? Not sure.

It you enjoy scifi, read the first book and then come back to the show. I've read all but the latest (book 4? 5?) and even I was on the fence after the pilot episode. But the show is already ramping up.

Really enjoyed it but considering it's viewership and the amount of effects it's using i just can't see how there ever will be a season 2.

okay, that's good to know, I'll stick with it for awhile and see how it goes... scifi is my fav genre and it's been a wasteland the last few years...

If you get the syfy sync app and have Hue lights then every episode changes the color of the lights by scene. It's pretty damn cool!

The show is decent. Syfy is actually putting money into new stuff again. Which is nice. I'm still hopeful that they bring back a stargate.

Finished episode 4 and the quality of the show does improve. I still think some of the "syfy-ness" of the show detracts from the story, but it has me genuinely curious and looking forward to new episodes. Going to start the book in the meantime. Also #teamMars

I'm seeing it and so far i like it, btw zero they were hanging the guy by the arm pits because he add a bone structure used to a much much lower gravitacional force, that is why he had huge armes and legs, they were torturing him by making his body support is own weight, much larger weight, that is why they put him in a water tank after, to not kill him.

I get the purpose, that's not my point. The physics don't work, try it out yourself. Have someone hold you upright by the armpit with no top on (). Then go limp, like actually limp. You'll slide right through. Depending on how flexible/nimble you are, this is used to escape certain locks through the armpit (like a "full nelson").

There are other physics problems like when the shuttle gets hit by Canterbury debris and starts spinning yet no one on the inside seems to be affected by it . Overall, they're minor points that detract from the show but they do occasionally remind you that you're watching somewhat low quality sci-fi.

First two episodes make you go hmmmm, the 3rd gets better the 4th starts to bring things together. I don't think the CGI is bad in fact I find it very very well done overall. The detective character is totally useless so far he flips through mobile device screens wears a stupid hat and does nothing, hope it all starts to mean something.

Will keep watching.

You guys still watching? It's up to episode 7 now. So far it is quite interesting. Dialogue seems good and the characters are fairly likable apart from the earth lady.

The renewed it for another season as well.

Keep watching as it's all intro so far. Eros is where the real stuff hits the fan. In other words, the next episode is where it looks to really get going.
