Default X800XT cancelled?!?! CDW source

Just got this from our purchasing rep at CDW:

Quote:
Jack,
You're not going to believe this, but I just got a mass email from Purchasing indicating a memo from ATI stipulating, "Per ATI, we will probably never see these."

There is a replacement card, and I've added it to the quote. ETA for this is the end of the month. Let me know if it's something that might interest you.

Dude, what can I say? I'm as pissed off as yourself. ATI hung me out to dry. Let me know what you'd like me to do for you.

Talk soon-

Tom *****
The "replacement" card was an X800Pro .

To be honest I wouldn't be surprised if this was the case... ATI cuts their losses, and instead concentrates on pushing out an X880XT (or whatever the model is) that has 512MB RAM and focuses on getting Doom 3 running fast. If they forget about the X800XT that might mean the newer cards actually get here on time.

We'll see if this gets confirmed....

No emails from CDW. My order from 5/29 is still showing backordered. I already have an X800pro so I can afford to be patient.

edit: I just checked CDW and my order status now shows, 'Item(s) not yet shipped' but the CDW website shows 'This product has been discontinued as of Tuesday, August 10, 2004.'

Thank you for your recent order with CDW. Unfortunately, the manufacturer
has discontinued the ATI Radeon X800XT Platinum.

We are still carrying the ATI Radeon X800 Pro for $389.00. This X800 Pro
card is currently out of stock for approximately 30 - 60 days.

Please advise if you would like to switch your order. If I do not hear from
you within 3 business days your order will be canceled.

I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Thank you and have a good day!

Jennifer

Negative!!! Talk about a long drawn out waste.

And I got criticized by many for saying that the X800XT PE will never ship in a post about a month ago...

People fail to realise that there ARE people that are active in these forums that have a LOT of insight on manufacturing and distribution.

This has been rumored for day's

All I can say is ouch

The only product they have is the pro that is losing to the GT (below the Ultra) or tied in some and slightly ahead in others

WTF is ATI doing?

After i have seen so many have killed theire cards i dont find this weird, to many of them cant even handel 1,4V. Remember NV said they was afraid of Low-K and that they didnt want to use it, i guess this could be why ??

If Ati got last min. problems i think it`s wery sad, they know how much that will hurt them.

Weird, how it barely begun to ship and it's already discontinued... Is it worth it to get a X800Pro? Probably not... I guess that means Nvidia for those who were aiming for the X800XT PE...either that or more waiting.

I used to have pending orders with Gateway and CDW months ago, but I am now glad that I backed out. This has to be the most pathetic launch of a video card ever.

I have just talked to my rep at CDW who is a friend of mine and someone I trust. He tells me that the eta on the pro's is the 15th and the 18th for the XT PE's. he said the shipment is 500 of both.

I agree that we need to wait and see, but I am positive that ATI would not cancel the orders, that is about the stupidest thing i have heard unless they have a new card to release ala 5800/5900 from Nvdia.

I don't know what to think about CDW on this. I know some people are getting them thru other channels.

This really is a sad day if this pans out. I just wish they would release the darn cards for 60 dollars cheaper at lower clock speeds. Regular 16 pipes XT model instead of XT-PE. (If they are having problems meeting the XT-PE speeds)

I do however have a little insight into stuff like this. I worket as a ee co op for nine months in a major car manufacturing companies electrical market quality division.(they are the division that fixes problems as soon as cars start shipping and warranty starts rolling in...pretty sweet job but high stress involved) Anyhow, actual design countermeasures take a long long time to implement in vehicle parts.(assuming it is a hardware part design problem) I assume it takes quite a while in the computer field as well. If the company I worked for was in charge of ati's quality control/ market quality with shipping xt-pes we would have already issued a temporary countermeasure lowering clock speeds and cutting a few dollars in price.(in order to save face until manufacturing issues were fixed) ATI has yet to do either perhaps because they are about to announce something huge that blows us out of the water. I sure hope so because this ain't pretty.

How would you account for the hundreds of people in these forums that have the cards?

If I stated that half life will never ship will you guys believe that too?

Since this is a company wide memo any CDW rep should be able to confirm (might take a day or two).

Sometimes there might be orders still placed with ATI for the cards with bogus ship dates entered into the system - perhaps that's what your friend is seeing. Have him sniff around and see if he can find a copy of this memo - it's supposedly sent to everybody so it'd be nice if we could confirm it.

I just hope there's some way I can force Gateway to give me a next-gen card for the price I have the X800XT ordered...

If ATI is only able to ship out a couple hundred cards but never hits widespread availability - that doesn't mean much. It shows they barely got the process going, but decided to cut their losses and cancel before doing a widespread release.

If there's another guy out there who pipes in, "Well I have my X800XT so I guess you're all full of it!" I think I'll strangle him. ATI cancelling the card doesn't mean they never made it... just that they will not be ramping up to full production.

For what it's worth, Fudo over at the Inq asked around and seems to think that this is all untrue - that there is just a delay until next month. Don't know how many times I've been told that...

Uhm, seeing that ATi's web site prolly still has the card up for sale, should be a good clue withn its self. If something would go down, that would be the first place to see something.

just got the memo which did not come from my rep even though it was his name he is going to check on it some more to verify. If this is true it will mark some very big problems for ATI, Just as it did for Nvidia.

They're probably going to replace it with a slower X800 GT card for the mass market and release the XT PE in very small quantity until the refresh part is ready. Either that or they have a newer revamped card but I just can't see that happening--can't really introduce something better/faster if you are incapable of delivering your current top end. Or maybe this is all speculation on our part and the card will be available in mass quantity by mid Sept. Until we hear something official from ATi, one should assume the card is not discontinued.

This is unfortunate news...I was on the list of customers at pcconnections.com and they gave me a call this morning and told me that the x800 xt had been discontinued...I wasnt as upset as I should have been because I decided to jump ship to nvidia three days ago, so my new card is on its way....but this is going to be a major blow to ATi...I hope they rebound with something even better because I have used radeon's for the last 4-5 years and they are a great product.

Tough Break for all those waiting in line for the XTPE's

what really sucks for me, who just paid 530 bucks for this x800xtpe and just got it, is that if a better card is released, i paid 500 and waited for a card that isnt even topend anymore....only had it for a week!!!
Really sucks to me...

PCConnections said it is discontinued as well??

I was kind of hoping this would be a fluke... too bad, hopefully ATI has something good up their sleeve or Nvidia will be making a boatload of cash.

I would be very suprised if ATi have a new flagship. The intro of the GT or XT std instead of the PE is more likely imho.

Who the heck cares about ATI and their cards anymore?

I'm supposed to receive my replacement X800XT next week, but at this point I am as excited about getting the darn card as I'm about hanging myself in a closet.

I'm really disappointed with ATI. It turns out I built a high-end system but never gave it a good spin because I am stuck waiting for a high-end card for over three months. What was the point of doing the upgrade?

I feel your pain bro. I too built a new PC in anticipation of the XT, but I haven't even been able load windows xp on it because I don't have a damn graphics card

I wonder if the PSU requirements will be raised for this new card? The Dell 8250's have the power to run an XT by a cats whisker. I'm worried that a straightforward upgrade could now become a lot more expensive thanks to ATI paranoia.

BLASPHEMY
I can’t believe the crap around here. Totally untrue! All of it in regards to the cancellation. Mark my words, The XTPE's will be here. As in regards to the INQ, that’s the closest and most truthful story that they have ever seen them post.

Consider this! ATi's webpage would be the first place to look. Especially seeing (assuming) that ATI's online store is the least output sales wise! They'd cut that off and let the other distribs finish off the last remaining few if this was indeed the case of the cards being discontinued.

Also, for whomever bought the cards from ATi and is awaiting shipment, would probably get an email stating that the order has been cancelled, and prolly get a suggested sale of the newer card or something equivalent.

Think people. Look at all the places who indeed do get the card… they sell out in mins. Personally, I think it’s just a case of too much demand than what ATi had initially expected! Nothing more, nothing less. :sheesh:

The funny thing is that it appears as though there is only one source for this story. Is that person emailing all these sites and spreading the rumour? I somehow doubt that flexbeta and the Inquirer just happened to be browsing this forum <g>.

This may be an hilarious example of how rumours start on the internet based on dis/misinformation.
