Nexus 2 Announced
[Aug 16, 2011, 11:19 am ET] - 32 Comments
Most Wanted Entertainment announces Nexus 2, an upcoming sequel to Nexus: The Jupiter Incident, their space-based tactical real-time strategy game. The original Nexus was was released in May 2005, and the following year what seemed to be a teaser for a sequel popped up, but no more has been heard of this since. "We re-launched the original Nexus on Steam a while ago, and even now we see a substantial amount of new players buying the game each month", says MWE owner Mike Horneman. "We have a very vocal fan base, and know that there's a large number of people out there who would love to see a sequel made." The game is being self-funded by Most Wanted Entertainment with the assistance of crowdsourced financing through GamesPlant, and while they don't share any details about the game at this point, they do outline how the financial part of this will work

It was announced back in August, but wow I cannot wait. Nexus the Jupiter Incident, while buggy, was one of the most engrossing space simulators I ever played and had a great campaign.

More info can be found on their main site:

I remember really liking the demo to Nexus 1, but never actually got the game. Lots of other good stuff was coming out at the time, I think.

I found combat overly lengthy and repetitive. You basically needed to bring down their shields and then just keep pounding away until they surrendered.

Uhh, unless they've found a publisher to fund the project this isn't happening. Their Games-Plant fund failed to reach it's goal, and it seems like Games-Plant itself has been replaced by something called Pixonauts.

Since they have already made a title for Paradox before, I wouldn't be surprised if they decide to publish this one as well. It is a kind of game they would publish.

If they are making this one, I sure hope that they will improve their mission design, though.

Mission design was fine for me, the only problem was the game stopping bugs that could be re-created every time, like crashes to the desktop at the end of certain missions, saves that would corrupt themselves...those are kind of serious issues.

I never got through the game because I encountered no less than three 100% repeatable crashes in different missions that occurred if you did objectives or destroyed ships in anything other than the intended order. With no internet hyperbole, I can say that Nexus was one of the most poorly scripted and poorly tested games I've ever played - it's laughably easy for a player to break the game. That they made missions that could only be completed in one specific order is bad mission design.

If the developers care about their game or fanbase that much, what was stopping them from creating an unofficial patch to fix the original? I wouldn't support these guys on principle.

.

The last game I played like that was SunAge.

Nothing would crash if you did things out of order... just things like not being able to advance to the next section of the map, after completing two hours worth of strategy to get to the point where you can no longer progress.

Through my emails, some patches were made within days. After the third one, I told him I was done being a beta tester, and would just not play the game any more.

Sucked, because it otherwise was a pretty good game.

Games-Plant realized they can't fight Kickstarter ...

so they actually took step head into slight different zone ...
now what they offer is to become real investors ... with returns ...

also i think from standpoint of European law it's probably more feasible than Kickstarter (which don't support EU anyway from both sides of coin)

i'm going to watch Pixonauts closely ... and it would be quite surprising if Nexus 2 not appear there ...
