As for my backup horror story the other day I did a backup for my friend on his laptop and I didn't have an extra LAN cable so I copied about 30 gigs of music and videos to my PC over a 11mbs wireless network.

Man that is a lot of pr0n.

I don't have any horror stories atm, I just back up my documents and any other important stuff that would render me incapacitated without it. I do have a secondary HDD that I use for backups, so it becomes quite easy. *knocks on wood with a mallet*

And to think in a few years the cdr's will be useless, the ink will degrade and you'll have nothing.

Just buy one of those external USB/FIREWIRE hard drivers, drag and drop
and put the drive in a firebox for safe keeping...

Yeah I'm glad to have my 4X DVD+R/RW in my laptop, it makes backing up a lot easier.

Dudes - hard drives are SO CHEAP - you can buy an external hard drive
or a $399 Dell or Emachine and let that be your backup machine on your
home network. Is swanky!

HD Backup = Teh Win!

Fast, simple, inexpensive.

Teh win indeed. But HD do fail, and CDR disks are no better (tape is out of the question), so i'm basicly using a bandaid for a larger problem.

yeah that is way to cheap

I'd suggest getting a USB hard drive and use it as a storage HD.
if I back up my windows on CDrs I might use above 30 Cds.

That's why you have multiple hard drives.

External Hard Drive is still a great option.
