lol I have no idea about PG and what ever, I said it was all reminding me of the book. But if that company has not invested any money at all to maintain their infrastructure, which is crazy sauce for a company. They deserve what they get. But it should have never got this far. If that info was known and no one acted on that info then more than the company is at fault.

As far as the law suits for uncertain weather I am worried it set a crazy precedent. If companies are expected to tell the future about power lines going down due to weather and then the resulting fires and then the resulting damages and then the resulting deaths, that is amazing. I like those kinds of super powers. Telling the future is awesome.

Personally I thinking telling the future is BS.

As far that kind of thing I hope it does not come to my state.

None of what you're saying about being able to predict the weather applies here. Do you hear of ANY other electric utilities rolling blackouts due to inclement weather right now? Or in the past year? I'm willing to bet that maintaining your equipment has something to do with being confident it won't burn your state to the ground. Not some fanciful straw-man argument about them being able to predict the weather.

Wait 2 years and see where this all takes us. You lack vision, experience or both. I hope you are right and these lawsuits and blackouts all turn up rainbows and unicorns and I am dead wrong.

its quite likely he does, cause as an east coaster im sure he remembers the great blackout of 2003 and the quebec ice storm of 1998 that basically knocked out there entire electrical infrastructure. Both if which required major upgrades and tax payers dollars.

This just reeks of a corp looking for a tax payer bailout due to there own negligence.

Current fire makes PG&E shutdown looks like its justified somewhat. Even though I believe this area isnt theirs.

Not a fan of tax payer bail outs. That is why I am not a fan of states that do not, or did not, allow competition. (or allowed monopolies which is the same from the other side) Having worked at a utility for 12 years, ma bell, companies with full control like that have and will take full advantage.

(Ed Whitacre, when he bought Ameritech and made us SBC (now AT&T) had a motto, Where will they go for phone service?) Ameritech had years of JD Power awards for service and one year after the buy out we never got another and our stock options where worth zero.

I saw both sides, the good from the breakup resulting competition and the bad from the re-consolidation.

i agree but ironically i think utiliies should be public not private. I look at hydro quebec as the gold standard. Self sufficient, profitable, carbon free and the cheapest prices in north america(~7-8cents/kwh)

The ideal solution would be to allow & promote competition in the utility market in California, but instead PG&E is a monopoly and does whatever the hell it feels like (which in the case of maintaining its infrastructure often means "nothing") while constantly raising rates.
