Yeah, pretty much. I wouldn't deal with that stock cooler for long. Then again that extra $50 could go towards aftermarket cooling.

Yeah but not much slower. In the games where GTX680 really struggles like Metro, Crysis 2, and Serious Sam 3 the 7970 at those clocks just walks all over the 680 especially at higher resolutions. At 2560x1440 it averaged 8% faster in the TPU review.

When the GTX680 does outperform the 7970 it never really seems to be with a game that its struggling in. You can't say that about the 680.

I'm not seeing many games where a GTX680 is this much faster than a 7970.

Yeah, the drivers have vastly improved the 7970's performance. It is pretty much identical with a 680 now, and constantly faster at high res.

Diff between what and what is that on the far right?
The post has no source link, so i can't check myself...

the 680 vs the Ghz card on 12.7 i suppose? (it is not even an official AMD beta)...
Since when do i have to suppose on a chart?

Yeh fair enough, admittedly I look at the games I play being BF3, SC2, Skyrim and a couple others, where the 680 still comes out on top. Surely due to drivers, and not hardware.

So that's what it was! Thanks Dave.

The labs501 chart: i'm not a mathematician but i am certain that the "Dif%" column on the right is not showing the difference in percentage.

Let's see:
Far Cry 2560x1600 8x AA min: the Ghz 8 fps over the 680 but no way is that 25.71% difference!

Another one:
Crysis 2 2560 x 1600 4 x AA min: the GHz 12 and the 680 12 fps, no way is that a 20% difference.
And so on and so on...

So what does it mean?

It looks like they're comparing the results between drivers on the ghz edition.

Don't see the point Ristogod. Most 7970's can do 1ghz core without a voltage increase, this bios increases the voltage to do it.

+1.

All you would be doing is putting more stress on the chips, thats not needed. Besides, these ghz editions are binned/picked to hit those voltages.

I guess that the only real reason to flash that would be the higher official limits and the higher power limit which really wouldn't effect people on air and probably water.

Well, let's just hope I got it fixed by the time the 9000 series rolls around.

My cards have never OC'ed well. I hate running extra software to keep the clocks higher also. Plus, half the time something's broken and one of my two cards will OC and the other wont. The settings in CCC OD for the 2nd card will stick in one version of CATs and fail in the next.

If I can just have higher clocks without dealing with all the other BS, then who cares about higher voltages. I don't.

So I went ahead and flashed last night. Seems to have worked fine on both cards. I played BF3 without issue for an hour or so after.

Anyone have experience with flashing back to the original firmware if these don't hold out?

Yeah, I suppose. That way I can have the best of both?

I couldn't remember if it was truly dual BIOS, or if the switch was some type of BIOS restore switch or whatever.

Running 1050-1450 (core/mem) on both cards. Also things have never been so solid since the latest 9.90 drivers. I'm very happy with the current performance and flexibility to use SSAA in a few dx10 and dx11 titles.
I also have to learn how to use downsampling without the Tomm SSAA-tool, because someone found a way to do so in almost every situation.
