This game initially was going to be an instant buy. I loved BF2 and ones before, but now I am definitely going to wait out a few weeks after release before I fork out $100+. There's just too many worrying signs at the moment. -.-

That article above isn't right:

Wonder if that damage bug was related to all those instant deaths from non headshots.
Already pre-ordered, and sticking with it.
Beta was a ton of fun, even though I had to play on my laptop on Caspian border due to some wierd brutal inputlatency on my desktop.. on that map only, metro was fine.

I think I read somewhere that being able to call out enemy locations will be in retail, like bf2. Is that true? I don't like the random radio chatter.

Sticking with my pre-order, as are my friends. Wouldn't cancel even if I didn't like it since we just ordered a 48 player server with option to expand

I like the system, but just as in BC2, the Beta spotting seemed finicky. I had maybe a 50% success rate in getting it to work at all.

Yeah was kinda random, could get 3 guys off in the distance when you only saw and spotted on one, and then the next moment you cant spot a tank to save your life 5m away.
Always been a little bit finicky as I can recall, but I expect they´d have improved on that in the final product.

Once you press Q (spotted something or not), the ability goes in to cool-down and you can't use it again for a short duration

Yeah, and it makes a sound when that happens.
As I recall it you could spot a couple of times before that happened though.
Still was kinda wonky, when off CD.

Is EA gonna have its own official hosted game servers or is it just for matchmaking like in past games?

I find official servers are a lot better than playing on some other kids rig. And Id rather pay ea for the privilege at say 5$ a month than buy server time from various outfits that will vary in quality. Man I wish they'd go back to server hit detection.

What do you mean like in past games? Battlefield PC games have never had anything like the console matchmaking services.

I see what you mean.

Why would official game servers be best do you think? There's tons of great 3rd party game hosts out there and I'd much rather they compete instead of giving the developer monopoly on it. If someone was running a laggy crappy server no one would ever play it. And what happens when they don't care to support it anymore? I don't like the idea at all.

Anyway, with bc2 DICE has to "authorize" game hosts to host bc2 servers. I assume they'll do the same thing here to give them some sort of quality control.

Oh cool didnt know there was a vetting process. So Dice buys server access for its games then? Ive been used to Novalogic hosted games that are much better than those hosted on gamers own rigs... Hit detection and lag are so much less an issue on commercial quality servers...

Dice doesn't make any money off it and Dice doesn't pay them either. They just authorize 3rd party game hosts to host BC2 games. Authorized hosts get server files and updates and that jazz. Though the files do get leaked, I don't think they show up in the ranked servers list if they're not authorized.

I will be at the GeForce Lan this weekend as press. There is going to be two important people from EA there and I will be interviewing them on camera.

Does anyone have any questions they would like to have answered?

Bf2 had loads of official servers hosted by ea, I can't remember if bf1942 had them or not, but official servers are not a new thing.
