Cleaned up because this non-sense doesn't belong in the 3080 thread!

There were leaks about the new Ampere card being 40% faster than the previous lineup. We also got a listing of the Cuda Core count and VRAM. Furthermore, the new architecture will use Samsung’s 10nm (8LPP) process node.

For gaming, line rumors indicate that GeForce RTX 3080 Ti would get 5376 Cuda Cores, a 384-bit memory bus, 12GB of VRAM offering an estimated 40% performance increase over RTX 2080 Ti. The RTX 3080 could feature 3840 Cuda Cores, 320-bit bus, 10GB ram, 10% better performance than the RTX 2080 Ti. It will be interesting to see if this information ends up being true, or ends up being false rumors.

i will be surprised it they release this year at all
as they will know few will have the 1300+ to spend on crap like this this year
this is the kind of stuff people stop buying in a downturn first

and August and September will be the time the virus starts coming back if it dies down at all in summer
or when people start prepping and buying TP

If that's true then you and I gotta hold off for 3080Ti.

AMD maybe farther along and less money but i don't think they will get navi 2x out this year

just think they both got to know sales will be very low this year even if they can get the cards out of asia

maybe if instead of 2 free games with a new card they give you 100 rolls of toilet paper

I'm very happy with the improved quality, flexibility and efficiency of the tensor cores and Dlss; and curious to see what new tensor core features Nvidia offers with the 3xxx series.

I wish they would release it soon, my 1660ti is just about good enough for VR with most games at high settings, but I want to push them to it's max + supersampling.

Asia is on the other side of the curve and the epicenters are now Europe and USA. In UK we are in lock down for minimum three weeks (just finished week 1) and our Prime Minister and Health Secretary have tested positive for Covid-19. We can now only go out to buy food or an hour's solitary exercise. The police now have the power to fine and detain people who they catch flouting this order. One of the Govt's health specialists think we'll be in lock down till at least June.

The Govt has stepped in and guaranteed employee salary's to 80% to a maximum of £2,500 p.m. and they've put a safety net in for the self-employed although that is more complicated. Unlike the USA they're not doing helicopter money yet but it hasn't been ruled out.

So I think they'll get the cards out but there will be a very subdued market in Europe and USA as people will be using their discretionary spend on basic items. Consumer demand has just fallen off a cliff and some economists are predicting it might stay that way for a year.

Personally my wife and I are looking at a paper loss of about £120,000 ($150,000) form our pension savings in the last month. Luckily we don't need the money at the moment so we're staying invested and hoping for a speedy recovery although i think it might take 2 to 3 years.

There are a lot of people worse off than me so I can't see many people wanting to spend £$1,000+ on a new graphics card for at least the next 6 to 12 months or ever. On a more positive note for AMD & Nvidia their corporate sales are booming and Micron just posted excellent results. Cloud demand is enormous which is sending companies scurrying to buy more servers not to mention the AI that must be going into looking into a vaccine.

The main thing is keep safe as we can all get by on what we've got for the next 12 months.

In general people buy hardware that makes their experience worth it for what the hobby means to them. Casual gamers like me who used to be somewhat hardcore are still rocking 1080p. I can afford any gaming card or hardware the market offers but I really don't have the time to do much gaming anymore and I am clearing my backlog when I do game(Risen 2 anyone?) so I don't keep up much with new games.

A sense of humour is as asset on this forum by the way.

By the way I still hate Nvidia .

Indeed and to the 2080Ti "value" issue with a 2 year+ ownership of the card I have paid what I usually do yearly, $550, for the upgrade so for me personally the "value" was there. I don't plan to upgrade until the 3080Ti comes out.

That response was aimed at exposed with the debate with nascar, they both removed their posts.

But you always say 'Let the market decide'. That was a popular phrase of yours.

So let the market decide. If people pay 'extreme premiums' then there is a market for such.

I don't think anyone wants to spend $1400 on a GPU; we do it because we have to for the performance we want.

I just thought Exposed went after Nascar too strong because Nascar demanded more value in their debate, that's all.

I was lucky to get a 2080Ti on terms I could live with in 2018. Both sides have a valid point.

That's the thing, he wanted to put personal value when I was referring to intrinsic value.

You put as much personal value into a card as you want, for example making a 970 last as long as until today. But what's the point if you're just going to lower settings and settle for subpar framerates?

Is a 1080Ti slower or faster than a 2080Ti? Which card was out on the market longer before its next gen replacement came out? Can you upgrade from a 1080Ti today? Can you upgrade from a 2080Ti today?

Gone are 12 month product cycles. If one card costs $1200 but lasts two plus years before the next high end comes out, and you spent the same money (if not MORE) for two GPU's within the same time period, which one really had the better "value" overall? Would you rather have two ugly ass girlfriends in a row or one beautiful ass specimen for the same period?

This is my reasoning as well. From this point of view there was value in the 2080Ti for those who bought early.

Would you rather have two ugly ass girlfriends in a row or one beautiful ass specimen for the same period?

The product generation hasn't changed, Pascal was over two years, you're forgetting about Titan X for 1200 in 2016. The major reason for the positive accolades for the 1080ti was its value.

Not every gen will have that kind of value. NV had to get $ out of RTX investment and the 2080Ti has been king of the hill for 2 years (or will be).

imho,

What they did is move up the GeForce pricing stack because of their execution, engineering and lack of competition; to test the GeForce waters and try to normalize the higher pricing. The market acted favorably and Nvidia enjoys strong GeForce revenue and margins.
