It looks like the memory io voltage power supply moved to the end of the card with the memory core volltage supply.

If you notice..there's still 13 of those large silver capasitors(?) ..they just spread them out over the card instead of having them in two groups. Can this mean anything? Spreading the heat?

I understand the R300 runs relatively hot.

However, I'm talking about a RV350. This is supposedly a cut down R300 made on a 13 micron process. Sort of like how the RV250 is a cut down version of the R200. The R200 needs a fan, the RV250 does not. I was hoping the RV350 wouldn't need a fan, or if it did, as small fan.

Bottom line, I'd love to see a fanless DirectX 9 card from ATI that doesn't take up 2 PCI slots.

I personally don't like the molex connector, I prefer the floppy connector.

Does anybody know if review units have been distributed to the Anands of the world?

If so, how about a ballpark timeframe for a sneak peak?

I'm really looking forward to seeing the numbers on this card, as I'm positive it's going to be an IQ junky's dream.

A website FAMOUS for good reviews should have a preview in a couple weeks..

Clock speeds are not finalized..yet.

im assuming they'll drop the price of R9700Pro between $50-$100 and price the R9900 @ R9700Pro's current msrp

they'll probably be $399 (R350) ..

just a guess though

So basically they cranked up the GPU and ram voltage for the higher clockspeeds, with a larger fan with bigger fins for the cooling. ?
Who says they upped the voltage? I mean the r300 can hit 400 pretty easy with stock cooling I'm sure with a few minor adjustments they could hit a 375-400Mhz clock speed. I wonder what features they added to this core? 2 TMUs? I hope so!

2 TMUs: no
RV350 needing a fan: depends on clockspeed. Something interesting comin' with regard to that (it's M10 too remember).
Will R350 break 400MHz - it can, easily. Most likely depends on marketing what the final clockspeed will be (given the lack of competition).

The board is very similar to the 942 (R300 ref) board as you can see from the pics. Probably has tweaked power regulation stages for operation at higher clockspeeds and almost certainly will use more power for line termination.

MuFu.

im surprised that no one noticed, but just to the left of the heatsink on the r300, there is an empty space, on the r350, there seems to be somthing there, not sure what it is though...

that's a feature connector for daughterboards. Manufacturers can put it there on the R300 if they want, but so far no one has ... which is likely due to the complete lack of R300 daughtercards

Default Nice... but... an intermediate card?

Last year, NVIDIA came out with the GF4 which, to me, was
not significant enough an improvement to warrant a purchase.

This year, ATI seems to have the R350/RV350 (or whatever)
and I wonder if it's really worth it? The good news is that
it'll likely bring the 9700 down to the price of the 9500, which
I'm sure by now we all know ATI can probably handle (aka
9500-9700 hack).

The thing is, I don't think we should be drooling over a card
that has a main purpose of being #1 only ... and by a small
margin. However, the GF4 did sell a lot last year, so I presume
this "intermediate" card should sell well if the price point is
good. Hmm, perhaps this is something good. I'm more
concerned on what reviewers will think when it comes out.

Very good news. All it means is that the R400 is getting closer.....not worth it for me to go from a 9700Pro to the 9900Pro (if there will be one). ATi has really cooked NVidia's goose this time! Good competition is good for us guys drooling over the eye candy on our monitors.....

lol. This is a forum full of people who like graphics hardware, yet only 2 people in this thread brought up that AGP connector.

The AGP connector on that RV350 is an AGP 2x 3.3V connector.

Now, if that doesnt show if these picks are real or fake, then nothing will.

No, it's not. 3.3V AGP 2x would be the other way around. The connector on RV350 is keyed for 1.5V only (i.e. AGP 4x or 8x).

Why wouldn't they bring out a faster card if they can? Those of us who've already bought a 9700 Pro can skip it but there are a lot of people who were waiting for the release of GFFX before buying a card. So it's perfect timing - those people who haven't already bought now have the choice of a lower cost but still awesome ATI card (the 9700) or they can go the whole hog and buy the 9900. I'd hazard a guess that proportionately speaking Radeon 9700 owners are a tiny percentage of the market at the moment.
