Folding on a 7850

I have a couple of CPUs folding for Team 64 again (man it has been way too many years that I have been away)

I would like to get this Sapphire Radeon 7850 folding as well. However, the client just sits there...

At anything but the highest setting, my ATI card doesnt start working. At work, my two ATI cards work fine at the default setting.

edit: started folding again today...

Have you set the gpu's slot to use the newer core 17 ? From the log it looks to me like your gpu is trying to fold the older core 16. Drivers newer than 12.10 (?)
(possibly12.12) have a newer version of APP/OpenCL that doesn't play nice with the 7xxx series+ core 16.
Right click on the folding icon and select Advanced Control
Right click on each line and Pause all work
Click on the Configure button then the Slots tab.
Click on your gpu entry then click edit
Scroll down to Extra Slot options and click add
In the Name box type client-type as the Value type advanced.
Save exit then right-click on the fah icon and quit
You should go into your FAH work folder and delete everything inside the 00 folder from the log that looks like your gpu slot.
It's found in User/yourname/AppData/Roaming/FAHClient/work
Restart client

After a few % you should see everything populate below the progress bar
ETA and all the rest.

My 7970's loved the Cat beta 13.11v1 beta 3 was slower too early to tell on the new beta 6.. been getting 7810 and 7811 work units no 8900's.
Which Cat's are you using?

I wish there was a more elegant solution to dump that wu..but I don't know of any..it will eventually re-enter the queue I suppose but will hold things up until it does..from what I've been reading there are only a couple of projects that are still using core 16.

I remember when Folding @ Home had an advanced WU setting... Downloading and working on giant huge work units that took days to crush.

Based on that I looked at my HTPC... It has a pretty old GFX card in it Radeon HD 5670... It appears to also be folding! LOL... not particularly fast, but at least it is folding.

That particular machine is a weird mix of old parts in a new chassis.

Intel Core 2 Duo Extreme Edition X6800 @ 2.93GHz
Radeon HD 5670 512MB (OEM DELL - dont ask)
4GB of DDR2 G.Skill PC800
Asus Motherboard
60GB SSD

... like I said - odd mix of parts in a HTPC chassis and a 550watt Enermax PSU :P

Are you referring to the bigadv wu'd for the cpu ?
Those are still around but due to people oc'ing their intel's with hyperthreading enabled they upped the amount of cores required. Too many close calls and missed deadlines. You need a xeons/opterons these days, not sure if anyone has tried a i7-4960X though.

DarkFoss Radeon R700 Join Date: May 2002 Location: Illinios Posts: 858	Have you set the gpu's slot to use the newer core 17 ? From the log it looks to me like your gpu is trying to fold the older core 16. Drivers newer than 12.10 (?) (possibly12.12) have a newer version of APP/OpenCL that doesn't play nice with the 7xxx series+ core 16. Right click on the folding icon and select Advanced Control Right click on each line and Pause all work Click on the Configure button then the Slots tab. Click on your gpu entry then click edit Scroll down to Extra Slot options and click add In the Name box type client-type as the Value type advanced. Save exit then right-click on the fah icon and quit You should go into your FAH work folder and delete everything inside the 00 folder from the log that looks like your gpu slot. My 7970's loved the Cat beta 13.11v1 beta 3 was slower too early to tell on the new beta 6.. been getting 7810 and 7811 work units no 8900's. Which Cat's are you using? It appears to also be folding! LOL... not particularly fast, but at least it is folding. That particular machine is a weird mix of old parts in a new chassis.
