Default 9700 Fails DX7 test in DX diagnostic test

Running dxdiag test with WinXP, my 9700 basically fails the first D3D test which is using DX7. The box is checkerboarded. All other DX8 DX9 tests are fine.

This problem will show up in games using any DX7 shaders, other areas are fine. This problem occured once before a year ago or so after a driver upgrade. At that time, I believe the cure was re-installing DX, or the gart driver, but I have tried that to no avail.

The last thing I tried was:

Un-install Ati drivers.
Use Driver cleaner3.
Install MB chipset gart driver.
*try re-installing DX9c ( I say try, because it shoots thru it so fast I don't think it is re-installing, cant tell)
Then re-install latest Ati driver. (had an older driver in it when this started to show and thought while I was going thru this problem I would install newest driver)

Problem persists. Any ideas?

sorry, A-OK here ... dunno why I get artifacting, although later on I'm gonna try putting a room fan next to it to see if it's a heat issue.

Try DirectX Eradicator, which will remove DirectX and then you can reinstall DirectX 9c. Linky: http://www.softpedia.com/progDownloa...load-2588.html

DXE works really well. I can't say for sure it will cure your problem, but it worked for me in the past for similar issues such as what you are encountering.

Hope this helps.
Peace.

Well, after doing some research into this, it looks like SP2 prevents DXE from working. I tried an older version of DXE, and it runs and changes the registry entry which reports the Installed DirectX Version, but does not roll back the files to a prior version like it did Pre-SP2.

So, the only thing that you could try is to uninstall SP2, then see if the DirectX corruption is still present and if so, then run DXE, then reinstall SP2, which includes DX 9.0c.

Or reinstall Windows from scratch..

Sorry man.

I put my old 8500 back in and I have no problems with corruption, so DirectX must be ok, maybe the portion of the card that handles DX7 type shaders is dammaged. I'm going to try the card in my sig rig and see what happens.

BF2 does not like the 8500 at all.

I put the card in the other comp and it fails the first DX 7 test as well. I removed the HS/fan unit which was an Arctic Silencer, and in my opinion, the AS5 I used looked cooked, so I don't think the HS was making good contact. Damn those 9700 shims.

Shame, this was actually a 9500np hard modded/bios flashed into 9700np and has worked flawlessly for several years. I am going to attempt to return it into its origional state as a 9500np and see if perhaps I only burned up the enabled pipes, or perhaps the reason the core was origionally down-graded has now proven itself.

I removed the hardmod and returned the resistor position on the GPU PCB back to origional 9500np config and bios flashed the card to un un-locked 9500np bios.

There are no problems with DX7 tests now. I will put the card back into the comp that was having problems with it and test it. Then I will try the Omega drivers and try the 9500>9700 softmod just for grins, if it does'nt work I will have to be content with a 9500np.

Thanks for the help

Put the card back into the origional comp as a 9500np and NO problems with the DX test. Using Omega drivers to unlock the pipes and softmod into a 9700np is a problem as the DX7 test fails.

Bummer that the Arctic Silencer/GPU Shim Fuxard a good card. I should have left the 9800pro HS fan I had on there that's for sure but I am happy that I am at least left with a good 9500np which I guess now i'll have to overclock to make up the performance defeciet, but it still runs BF2 OK, much, much better than a 8500.
