Default Any of you using a Gsync Ultimate monitor?

I keep thinking about getting one and they are occasionally dropping to the $1600 range but now they are releasing other Gsync monitors with just HDR400 for $8-1100. Are any of you already using one? If so, what do you think? Is Ultimate worth the premium?

at first, i was wondering what the hell gsync ultimate is.

all you're paying for is HDR, which imo, not worth it. game support on AAA PC games seems extremely hit-or-miss from what I've seen.

HDR looks awesome on my Samsung Q70R but it seems to have a very slow adoption rate for PC gaming.

I wouldn't bother with low-end HDR either. All or nothing!

Yeah I didn't know what it was either, also arnt most if not all monitors not even full true HDR? I think Linus said that when he reviewed the OLED 120hz TV. $1600 for a monitor.... That's crazy.

As far as the HDR, they are 1000nit. Even W/O the
HDR1000 support, they should still be the best monitors out. 4k @ 144hz with Gsync and the color accuracy should be 2nd to none and full array backlighting does wonders for blacks. Having that many zones on a 27" display should make it near impossible to tell apart from an OLED for blacks but easy to tell with peak brightness so much higher and response time so much better.
I just don't know how much better it will actually look w/o ever seeing one.

Ah ok, been so used to lcd panels to really know something like that until I see it, other than what people say. Let me say I do NOT want to see something that great, because I would want one, and I can't buy one right now.

Many monitors use shitty HDR implementation. The real expensive monitors support true HDR. You have to be careful with HDR supporting monitors. You need to be aware of what type of HDR you're getting....they are not all the same.

It's a shame that all the good hdr monitors are using the gsync ultimate hardware.

It would be nice with a freesync alternative.

The reason they are using that hardware is because that is Nvidia's minimum spec to get Gsync Ultimate certification.

Well yeah, my point was that there are literally no good HDR monitors with freesync support.

This thing destroys my OLED for HDR.

Metro Exodus on this thing is . Can't use DLSS though. I think they fixed the HDR/DLSS color issue by preventing HDR with DLSS. Assassin's Creed Odyssey looks amazing too. Even SDR games look better than on the OLED and all with the smoothness of G-sync. Wish I had more time to use it though. It's already caused one fight.

Nice mate. Those things are so expensive over here.

Not an ultimate gsync monitor, nor is it's HDR any good (although it has support), but I can buy a 2nd hand XV273K for $550 USD. IPS, 4k, 144hz (120hz limit with freesync/gsync) and has 2 years warranty. Thinking about jumping on it. Just need the GPU to drive it.

I think for $550 I might have gone that route. That one new here is about $800 and for $800 I may as well get the g-sync version for $1k and if i'm spending $1k it makes more sense to spend $1650 and get the absolute best is kind of how it worked out for me. Probably for the best though as black levels have always been my biggest complaint with PC monitors.

Does the monitor you got suffer from the same backlight glow as that 200hz 21:9 screen?

Linus tech tips did a video on that one and it had a strange halo around bright objects like the mouse cursor in some games.

Not in any games but it does have a halo with just the mouse cursor on a solid black background. It's only noticeable because the the rest of the screen is so black. also, when the screen is black and slightly larger solid white objects move to the corners and the corner zone lights it happens there too. I have only noticed this on one loading screen that is all black save for a little ball that goes in a circle in the corner. The mouse cursor in a black area within the screen where other areas are lit as well will not give that effect. I think it also only happens with HDR enabled so its over 1100nit according to reviews that have measured it against I think I read as low as .0019 in the black area.

Sure at 30hz.

The monitor you linked supports 4:4:4 up to 120hz at full resolution and HDR10. Good luck hitting 60hz with HDR enabled on a TV w/o screen blinking issues and on games that require windows 10 to be set to HDR, its almost out of the question.

EDIT: You got me curious because that looked like it might be a pretty nice console TV.

Native Refresh Rate: 120 Hz
Variable Refresh Rate: FreeSync
4k VRR Maximum: 60 Hz
4k VRR Minimum: 48 Hz
1080p VRR Maximum: 120 Hz
1080p VRR Minimum: < 20 Hz

Thats even W/O HDR enabled.

It also lacks a DP input so adaptive sync will not work with Nvidia cards.

120hz VRR 4:4:4 [single DP]

It lacks FALD meaning HDR is poor. I'd just use the 120hz VRR 4:4:4 option.

FWIW my TV supports those modes listed, but as an aside, I found it also supports 1440p 120hz freesync which isn't listed in the specs.
