Default Gamecube waves goodbye to xbox this holiday season!

Nintendo of America today announces that effective October 14th, eager players will be able to purchase the indigo-colored Nintendo GameCube with the game they’ve been thirsting for, Super Mario Sunshine, as well as a Memory Card 59 to save their game progress, in one, aggressively priced hardware/software bundle. The Super Mario Sunshine bundle will be available at a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $189.95.

Then, on November 3rd players will begin to see the Nintendo GameCube itself in a whole new light. Following the overwhelming market response to the Platinum Edition of the handheld Game Boy Advance, a limited edition Platinum Nintendo GameCube dazzles the market, featuring a controller of the same shine. The Platinum Edition Nintendo GameCube will carry a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $149.95.

Finally, for those who view ‘going platinum’ as a total lifestyle statement, the Platinum Game Boy Advance will make a brief return visit beginning on November 3rd as well, with an MSRP of $79.95

That platinum GC looks sweet, but we have yet to see how much SMS will push GC sales here in America. I'm certain it'll be enough to push it ahead for a while (If RE can do it for a month...) but we'll see.

Will you still be able to buy the GC without a game package?

Yes. There's just an indigo GC package w/ SMS (a really good deal), and a platinum GC (unbundled) on the way in addition to what's already available.

Good. I seem to recall that one or two consoles at sometime in the past forced you to buy a package that included a game. Ex. Nintendo only selling the NGC packaged with SMS.

Sams Club (at least, the one where I live) has a Gamecube, Memory Card, SSB:M, and strategy guide bundle all for just over $200, I believe. If ever I wanted to get a Gamecube, that's probably the package I would go with rather than the SMS one. Now, if the new Mario game was done in a 2D/3D fashion (similar to adventure mode in Melee), that'd be different.. but I never did like Mario in 3D.

That's not a bad deal considering you get Nin power as well. It seems they are unloading their mem card 59's to make room for the new large ones, then when they exhaust those we'll get the SD adapter!

I'm pretty much not counting on getting the SD adapter at this point. Nintendo has said nothing about it over the last long while and I know that if they had plans to release something like that they'd be letting us know for sure.

...they may just be waiting for prices to drop on flash memory but somehow I get the feeling that the cool idea won't see the light of day on this console

*sigh* why does nintendo have to resort to "apple-like" marketing and release a new color every now and then The platinum looks pretty sharp though and would match everything else in my entertainment unit.

Ehhh... I really don't care that much about what the unit looks like myself, as long as it plays games good I'm happy.

Although the platinum GC IS pretty damn cool looking.

There's color selections of the PS2 in Japan as well. Most of them are hideous, but the silver one is much cooler looking than the standard black color. I wish they'd release JUST THAT ONE here in the US. The other ones are awful.

Are you talking about the limited edition PS2s? There was red, yellow, silver.. some other colors I can't remember? There were only 666 of each color made, I believe. Why they picked that number, I have no idea.
