TN panels are absolutely fine for 99.95% of all the uses most computer users need (including basic photo editing, gaming, and general usage). If you NEED extreme color accuracy or regularly sit near the edge of your screen and expect to see it, a better panel should be used.... but TN is ABSOLUTELY FINE otherwise. Having the highest spec hardware and/or being a snob is just fine, but don't say that you need to buy a pricey panel because it offers some minor and generally unnoticeable (to most users) differences in image quality. If everyone who thinks they need an IPS or VA panel started with a TN panel of similar quality and size and had the option for a full refund to buy a better panel if they noticed any problems with it - there would be a tiny market for better panels.

Please don't start this up again.
I saw a S-PVA in action and other TN panels..The difference is BIG.I hate TN's too.In general i hate cheap LCD's but TN's are the worst.Very unnatural colours and screaming at your face. They are also washed out.Now i game on my EIZO CRT 21inch.I have a feeling that this CRT have another many more years to come.A graphics LCD maybe will fit my taste but just for the sake of buying LCD i wouldn't jump.

PC TNs are not fine
TVs i've seen in stores are another story... (they're surprisingly nice)

isnt a $100 jump just for 6 displayports a bit much? unless that card differs from stock 5870 in other areas

I got my Windows 7 copy last Friday while my 5870 was purchased 4 days later.

AMD's HD 59x0 is Hemlock

Dual GPU card without X2 suffix

As we already wrote here, AMD's new Open CL driver brought some surprise with two strings mentioning HD 5900 series cards. We managed to find out that these will indeed be dual-GPU incarnation of Hemlock, but without the (in)famous X2 suffix, something that has been a tradition so far.

Of course, AMD is quite silent when asked about this topic, and nothing can be confirmed directly from AMD, but as far as we heard so far, there is a plan for a single card, the HD 59x0. We are still not sure why there are two device ID's in the AMD Open CL driver but AMD might have put it just in case if they decide to come up with another card as well, based on dual HD 5850 GPUs.

Hemlock, or the HD 5900 series, as it can be called from now on, is ATI's stand against Nvidia's Fermi which has yet to show its face and performance, as it certainly looks good on paper. (So does communism. sub.ed.)
So Hemlock is more than just Crossfire on a stick ?

Either marketing, or those SFR rumors are true.

Damn it, I think I really want a 5850. Probably a stupid idea since all I am playing right now is NBA 2K10, and I'm doing that with 8xAA and still having it locked at 75FPS. Though it would be fun to go through Crysis/Warhead again since I really enjoyed those games.

Why do I always want a new GPU just to say I have it, and compare benchmarks with my last card? I suck.

A german website decided to simulate the performance of 5970 according to leaked info on GPU/Mem clocks. There is also a rumor that 5950 will be the -six display ouptput- version of the current 5870.

Interesting to have a look at approximate performance of 5970, though clocks may change and there is always a bit of performance difference when you have two of the same GPUs crossfired on two seperate cards or put on a single PCB aka crossfire on a stick.

The performance charts have a full range of nV and ATi cards which is a plus.

Check out Rage3D's Sapphire HD5870 Vapor-X review where we simulate a HD5900 using crossfire 5870's @ 750e/1000m

According to this source, AMD will switch its GPU production to GlobalFoundries in H1 2010, most notably with the launch of 28nm Bulk silicon process. This will be followed with the release of first "native" DirectX 11 architecture by AMD, not the "Radeon HD 4890 with DirectX 11".
Not that it's neccessarily accurate, but I'd have to think that AMD would be thrilled to get out from under the thumb of TMSC, and if they're going to start with actual Fusion processors (ie. including CPUs/ GPUs in a package) they may as well do it all in one place.

That new node at the end of 2010 or early 2011 could be something...

going eyefinity the options with price and panel becomes an issue on a budget.
3x e-ips screens 1680x1050 730euro.
3x TN panel benq 1920x1080 360euro.

half the price for the same amount of screens.
For gaming alone they work fine even with the lack of features a TN panel has.
I dont like the TN but what to do when the price difference is kinda big.
can still use the current s-pva for the off gaming things.

Prety gorgeous toy but is overkill really..With 5770 you can still play at 1600x1200 decently for 150euros.
