AMD (NYSE: AMD) today announced that according to the latest industry data, notebook manufacturers have chosen ATI Mobility Radeon™ Premium graphics processors to drive more than half of today’s discrete graphics notebooks. The data for mobile discrete graphics reveals a 36.5% market share gain, and 87.27% more units sold quarter-over-quarter through the first six months of 2009.1 AMD now holds the “Number 1” position with an overall 53% mobile discrete market share. Hooray! ![]() ![]() I wonder if this is because of consumer choice or if it is OEM choice, in reaction to the problems nVidia has had with mobility GPU reliability?

Probably both plus I think at this time ATI just has a better line overall for note books and even better around the corner. ATI/AMD developement is at a much faster pace over Nvidia for the last two years.

Given how large the notebook market is these days this should be a great thing for AMD's finances. Hopefully they can keep it up and avoid any "defective gpu" snafus.

*chuckles* look at the wattage comparisons of a HD4350 and GeForce 9400 desktop card even... Heck. Even the HD4550(which, is a nice little bit more muscle) runs a half-dozen watts below the 9400gt... Not to say I don't love the muscle in my 8800gt. I just wouldn't wana see its power-efficiency in a laptop xD Was this really a surprise this time around?
