You may have to wait until Q4 of 2020 to get it if nV releases a 3080 only in the spring.

I think it depends more on AMD and if they can have anything to compete next year.

Wouldn't be surprised if, by some miracle, AMD puts out a card that can compete with the 3080, and we see the 3080TI come out rather quickly after.

Compete with 2080 I can see. 3080? Not holding my breath.

After seeing how Red Dead Redemption 2 struggles at 4k with a 2080Ti, yup it's definitely time for another upgrade.

Whatever happened to 8 month upgrade cycles for new cards. This is going to be almost 2 years by the time a 3080/3080ti comes out.

you would think when it comes to MCM AMD would have huge advantage over NV since they have been doing it with Ryzen for almost 3 years now and APU's even longer

they just need to glue together 2,3 or more 7nm GPU's chiplets instead of CPU's chiplets or a CPU and a GPU

AMD is terrible at GPU competition, when they do compete it's usually a long time after Nvidia released their stuff, and Nvidia is already about to release the next one.

I'm staying hopeful they can pull off a surprise in the same way the CPU division has.

I feel this only really became the case starting with Bulldozer when the GPU division was raided to keep the CPU division afloat. If we drop back to the 290X even, back at the end of 2013, it was competitive with Nvidia's GPUs. After that Fury was barely competitive with the 980 Ti, and then Vega basically bombed (late and power hungry).

But you can see how that lines up, with Ryzen not coming out until 2017, and AMD just limping along most of the time between 2013 and then. So based on that, I think AMD can be more competitive. It's just that at this point they have a lot of ground to make up.

I hope so because Nvidia with little competition is as bad as intel.
