Default Apple takes a step away from FireWire

With the latest crop of iPods, Apple is no longer including a FireWire cable in the box. The music players will still work with FireWire, if a cord is purchased separately, but only a USB 2.0 cable comes with the device. The move is part of a gradual shift on Apple's part to standardize the iPod on USB, which is far more common in the Windows world.

Even though I myself don't have an iPod, firewire is faster and can charge the iPod, and some old macs don't have a usb port. Apple should at least make two versions, one cheaper one with firewire support, and a cheaper one with only USB 2.0.

no doubt. this has everything to do with many windows users buying ipods. apple has always been for firewire, years before mainstream pcs. however sometimes you have to forego your own values to fit into mainstream. taking out the firewire cable saves apple money and doesn't affect most ipod buyers because i woudl bet most are pc users without firewire.

btw-i hate usb but love firewire. why it was never accepted years before usb 2.0 is beyond me.
