Question Are the Rage3d unofficial drivers better than the official ATi drivers?.....

Are the Rage3d unofficial drivers better than the official ATi drivers? What about the omega drivers?

The "leaked" drivers are ATi drivers, they're just not yet thoroughly tested and approved; ATi leaks the drivers while they're testing the same drivers in their labs. This allows a much more broad band of testing, as we have a much more broad range of computer specs than ATi could maintain. (Edit: I should note that ATi tests them first, then leaks them near the end of their testing - they don't just fire out a completely untested driver)

I have had very few problems with the leaked ATi drivers (I think the 2D icon problem from the 7112s is the last problem I remember having with a leaked driver, and they were leaked around June or July, I think), but just remember not to complain to ATi if a leaked driver doesn't work out for you - we're technically not supposed to have them. Post any problems in the Rage3D forums, and others will tell you any problems or performance differences they're experienced.

I'm currently using the 9005s (they work great), and I usually wait until I see a few responses from other Rage3D forum regulars to decide whether to download the latest leaked driver (I have a 56K modem, so I really don't want to download every one). Searching through some of the forum posts should give you an idea if a certain driver is good or bad.

As for the Omega drivers, I've never tried them as I get good performance out of the leaked ATi drivers.

I have some problems with the 9005/9008 (refresh rate "glued" to 60 Hz, but it is not the same problem that occurs in win XP). I have checked around related forums and discovered that lot of people has the same problem with the 9005/8. What i'm wonder is: in which way can I inform ATI abt. this problem, if they don't support this drivers?. Which kind of testing is this? They need feedback otherwise .........

I have the general WinXP refresh problem anyway. I use powerstrip to lock in a refresh for every resolution.

Isn't the WinXP problem common to -all- video cards? I recall reading something about that. . .

The XP refresh problem is going to happen no matter what GPU you use.

Ooh! Ooh! So that means we can tell people to "stop bitching!" whenever they try and complain to ATi about it!
