Not only isn't LUCASARTS doing the engine, they aren't doing the game, either.

Raven is doing the game, using mod Q3 engine.

One thing about Raven, they deliver quality product on short development cycles.

Lets just hope its longer than some of Raven's recent fare.

Default ghoul system?

well they must be using something to model severed limbs... check this from the article at the above link...

"In the E3 demo, LucasArts showed a huge lightsaber battle between numerous Jedi in the docking bay of a space station, which had Kyle taking out tons of Stormtroopers in a variety of nasty ways—severing limbs with lightsabers, wielding incredible Force powers, and spraying blaster fire. Glorious lighting effects filled the screen at every moment, creating an eerie beauty to the battles. If you ever wondered what happens when good Jedi go bad, you’ll get to find out with Jedi Outcast."

I hope it's VERY modified... seeing as the engine is almost 2 years old already....

2 years old? :/

Well since then have something truly great appeared to knock Q3's engine off as being the King of 3d engines?

2 years and counting.. yet it's still the default benchmarking and standard for all the new 3d hardware coming out.

2 years, and more games built from it coming out that give awe inspiring effects.

For all its worth, Q3 may have been a **** game.. but the technology deserves respect.

It's still two years old.

The Model T may deserve some respect, but I still wouldn't want to drive I-5 with one. I'm just glad Lucasarts isn't actually making the game, they've just goteen far to whipped on console games these days. LA hasn't put out a decent PC game since Rogue Squadron, and that was made for consoles.

It would be nice to have a good Star Wars game again...

"Additionally, the developers have implemented the GHOUL 2 animation system from Soldier of Fortune II into Jedi Knight II, and they've doubled the polygon capacity of the Quake III engine. " Qoute straight from gamespot http://gamespot.com/gamespot/stories...761789,00.html
The reason why its possible is they are both made by Raven!

Who gives a rats ass if the engine itself is 2 years old? You want to wait 5 years for a game? It's also OpenGL based which means the game itself will be anything but 2 years old.

looks impressive, but i hope they gets some good looking shadows and lighting effects going since that's generally what adds the most realism to games i noticed no shadows on the storm troopers, but of course, i'm sure they game is early in development

Question

Am I the only one who thinks the Jedi character in the picture bears an uncanny resemblance to none other than: George Lucas? He may have brown hair (instead of black/grey), but he has an identical beard and hairstyle...

What do you think?

Damn, that's good news... Jedi Knight was much fun to play... now it's on the Q3 engine, the major lacking aspect, the GFX, will be addressed! Can't wait...

Smile if anything...

bottom line is that it's opengl... not a lucas built engine... that's a celebration in itself

and kudos to Ravensoft ... they also did the StarTrek Voyager game didn't they? that game had some kewl facial lip syncing and writen cutscenes (the borg cube levels still give me the creeps since it was so realisticaly done)... Raven does really well with doing a game and keeping a storyline well integrated...

can ya guys imagine how well this game is gonna be like? 2yrs old or not, the engine is still strong... (besides, q3 and ut are still being played lots these days)

the Q3 engine can display lots of high detail, and can still bring down cards to their knees with high polygon counts... perhaps Raven will break the cherry this time and let loose with way larger levels than in Voyager: Elite Force ...

as pHISH said... Can't wait...

The Voyager game was VERY short and that made it rather unimpressive to me. The game ended when it should have been only half over... Or maybe even a quarter over compared to some longer games. If Jedi Knight II is that short, I'm sure it will be disappointing regardless of the graphics.

We'll just have to wait and see.

Smile ahhh :)

i wasn't commenting on how short votager was, but the awesome enhancements they did to the Q3 engine... like the lip syncing and scripted cutscenes...

but yeah, i wish voyager was much longer... best cross our fingers that jedi outcast will not suffer the same fate?

Yeah, I thought the game itself was good and had some cool modifications. It's just that when I was just getting into it, the game ended. Other than that, it was great, although not the best game I've ever played.

The best recent direcly developed for PC Starwars game was probably X-Wing: Alliance. Too bad Radeons don't really like it
