Default AMD price cut RV670 179$-239$

i didn't find more sources to confirm this ...

Quote:
With Nvidia launching its GeForce 8800GT (G92) early on October 29, AMD has dropped its ATI Radeon HD 3800 series (RV670) price from US$199-259 to US$179-239 in preparation for its launch later this month, according to sources at graphics card makers.
The ATI Radeon HD 3800 will be available in two versions, the 3870 (RV670 XT) and 3850 (RV670 PRO), noted the sources, adding that the chips also support CrossFire X technology when combined with the upcoming 790FX chipset platform allowing to up to four graphics cards to work together.

In an update to a previous report, the Radeon HD 3850 supports 256/512MB GDDR3 memory with a core frequency of 750MHz and memory frequency of 1.8GHz, while the Radeon HD 3870 adopts 512MB GDDR4 with a core frequency of 825MHz and memory frequency of 2.4GHz.

a product got a price cut before it has been released?
I say, we live in a very strange time.

I remember a few years back when a price cut came everyone was jumping for joy. now everyone's just putting it in negative light. I don't know about you people, but I don't have money trees growing outside my window, so any price cut is a good thing.

I am not saying it is a bad thing... this is just way too strange.
I am shocked to see price cuts before product releases.

They're probably tired of sucking hind-tit and want to move up a little bit. ATi has some winning back of customers to get busy with. Trying to ah, get back in the game? Ah? Ha ha? Yeah.

Maybe the benchies we've seen of it against the 8800GT are close to the truth. Lowering the price could be a way to attract buyer interest as Scott has said....trying to stay just enough below the GT's price to hopefully sway those of us on the fence about what to upgrade to.

"Do i want a dozen extra frames or save 50 bucks?"

Might make a big difference for mass buying from the major OEMs.

You guys spam so bad.

+1

Seriously though... I don't like the idea of getting a first gen anything, but maybe dx10.1 isn't so next gen from dx10. This is sounding like a good upgrade from a 1950Pro.

Guys, it's not a price CUT...it's a clarification of the price, since all we had to go on before that was rumour.

What's great about this is "street prices" will even be more competitive, imho.

The "idea" of 199 dollar 3870's or less or 150 dollar 3850's or less is totally insane for this performance, feature-set, power out-put. For all the things i didn't like about the 2900 XT -- man, do I love these products.

What a frigg'n turn around in my mind.

Think about it: What did ATI/AMD really offer from the 150+ price-points 6 months ago? Nothing really compelling.........and now see tons of advantages.........and reasons to buy an ATI/AMD product here.

while the Radeon HD 3870 adopts 512MB GDDR4 with a core frequency of 825MHz and memory frequency of 2.4GHz
erm mean this speed increase from 770/777 to 825 ? (bios upgrade or new models serie or what ?)
