Default Rv670 Twin (gemini) a dreamcard?

As I am having a "old" x1950xtx in the rig I am looking for some upgrade in the next generation.

The twin card as the whispers tells are a dual gpu on a single pcb.

That for me seems like a nice card to get, crossfire on a single slot card seems as a dreamcard for the gamers.
With the new 55nm it even might be a nice overclocking card.

That for me seems like a winner no matter what nvidia came along with.

AMD

Well we need to wait for preview/reviews of such cards, performance, compatibility, power, heat, etc

And specially the price..... ha.

Apparently the RV670 is the R670.

In other words, 2 X RV670 = R670.

R670 is the code name for the dual GPU RV670 card, at least thats what Fudman is now spouting.

Apparently the power requirements for the R670 will be on par with the R600.

Thats two GPU's that are going to be clocked at something like 800Mhz plus with GDDR4 on one PCB.

That sounds insane if thats true I'm destined for quad-fire

Damn with the new 4 PCIe lane motherboards maybe you can have octo-fire

I doubt the R670 dual GPU solution will be clocked as high as the single GPU RV670, purely for power reasons, and maybe heat also.

Would you get a large degree of heat soak from having 2 GPUs on one card?

Well winter is coming around it'd be a benefit

I'm hoping for something close to 800Mhz on the dual GPU boards.

That would make for an insane card.

Dual 800Mhz with 512MB RAM per card

Why not? Nvidias GX2 was clocked higher then the GT. It might get a bit slower clock ala 800Mhz each, but remember thats 55nm it will be just fine.

Thats true, however the GX2 (if memory serves) is on two seperate PCB's joined together by a bridge.

If the R670 has two GPU's on the same single PCB (as is I believe whats happening with this card) then that might be more problematic. I haven't read anything yet which states that they are going to be on seperate PCB's, though I will stand corrected if this is indeed the case.

But if they are slapped on a single pcb next to each other you can easier use a dual slot cooler ;o
